White Sox | Jeff Samardzija attracting interest

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 11:26:28 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays are interested in Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija.

Fantasy Tip: Entering play Sunday, June 28, Samardzija ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) had posted a 5.94 ERA through six June starts, which hasn't exactly helped his trade value. Avoid using him in FantasyScore until he starts producing better results.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija settles in for win

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 22:54:56 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija allowed two earned runs, eight hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over seven innings in a win against the Minnesota Twins Tuesday, June 23. He settled down after allowing a first-inning run. He leads the majors with 19 first-inning runs allowed.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija ($5,500; or 11.0% of cap) has allowed a major-league worst 118 hits this season, but he can still be a valuable contributor in FantasyScore when the matchup is favorable.

White Sox | Lack of run support hurting

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 15:11:15 -0700

Even with a 3-2, 11-inning win over the Texas Rangers on Sunday, June 21, the Chicago White Sox have scored three runs or less in eight straight games. It is the worst streak the team has had since 1976. Chris Sale has a 6-3 record and 2.74 ERA and SP Jeff Samardzija is 4-4 with a 4.67 mark this season.

Fantasy Tip: This is primarily why players like Sale ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) and Samardzija ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) have struggled on the mound. A lack of run support can hurt pitchers and has hurt some great starters this season. Until the White Sox can start scoring some runs, it may be worth skipping their starters.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija getting hit early

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 09:22:20 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija has allowed 18 of his 51 earned runs this year in the first inning. He has considered changing his pre-game routine in an effort to correct his first-inning woes.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has a 4.67 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP, but more alarming is his 7.35 K/9. That's the second-lowest clip of his career. He has a 6.84 ERA this month so give him some time to work out the kinks before using him on FantasyScore.

Rays | Kevin Kiermaier back in lineup

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 12:53:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Kevin Kiermaier is back in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija Saturday, June 13.

Fantasy Tip: Kiermaier ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) was not in the starting lineup Friday, June 12, because the team was facing a lefty. He is batting .345 with a home run and three RBIs over the past two weeks.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija rocked again

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 19:22:22 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija allowed six runs on 10 hits in 7 1/3 innings in a 6-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers Sunday, June 7, and he has allowed 15 runs in his last 12 1/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) has been inconsistent all year, and after back-to-back duds, he needs to be avoided at FantasyScore until he figures things out.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija slaughtered by Rangers

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 20:22:58 -0700

Chicago White Sox Jeff Samardzija allowed nine runs on 12 hits and a walk over five innings during Chicago's 15-2 loss to the Texas Rangers Tuesday, June 2.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) has been maddeningly inconsistent this season, as the game Tuesday was the fifth time he has allowed at least four earned runs in a start. In five of his other six outings, he has allowed two runs or fewer. FantasyScore players need to be extremely picky when starting him in contests, and seasonal owners cannot start him with confidence outside of plus-matchups.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija solid again

Wed, 27 May 2015 14:45:23 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija allowed just one unearned run and eight hits in seven innings in a no-decision against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, May 27. He walked one and struck out five while throwing 78 of his 114 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) has allowed just five earned runs in his last 23 innings pitched, after struggling to open the season with his new squad. He's not allowing many home runs at home, either, which is a positive development. He could continue to be overlooked at FantasyScore, and in the right matchups, he's a fine daily option.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija spins another plus-start

Sat, 23 May 2015 06:31:12 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija won his fourth game of the season against the Minnesota Twins Friday, May 22. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out nine batters over eight innings pitched.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players will want to note Samardzija ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) has been stronger at home with a 3-0 record, 2.57 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 8.0 K/9, as opposed to his 1-2 record, 5.73 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 on the road this season. It is still early, and Samardzija has strung together consecutive eight-inning wins. Expect the split to lessen going forward, but it is clear he is currently a better option when pitching at U.S. Cellular Field.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija to drop appeal

Tue, 05 May 2015 20:22:35 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija is expected to drop his appeal and begin serving a five-game suspension Wednesday, May 6, a baseball source said Tuesday, May 5.

Fantasy Tip: With Samardzija ($6,900; 13.8% of cap) and Chris Sale ($8,100; 16.2% of cap) each serving suspensions, Carlos Rodon ($4,200; 8.4% of cap) is expected to make a start at some point during the team's weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds. Samardzija's next scheduled start is expected to come May 11 against the Milwaukee Brewers.
