Giants | Jeff Samardzija absorbs sixth loss

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 14:16:45 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija fell to 1-2 over his last six starts Sunday, July 24, versus the New York Yankees, surrendering five runs on eight hits while only striking out three across 5 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija hasn't been the same since throwing a four-hitter on June 17, allowing nine homers while posting a 7.29 ERA since. His next next matchup doesn't figure to get any easier either - Friday versus the Washington Nationals and ace Max Scherzer. That start might be a good time for owners to reintroduce Samardzija to the bench, at least until he can return a more favorable result.

Giants | Johnny Cueto to start Saturday

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 08:55:29 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto will be the starting pitcher against the New York Yankees Saturday, July 23. SP Jeff Samardzija was originally scheduled to start Saturday but will now start Sunday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto has allowed at least four runs in three of his last four starts but still has a 2.64 ERA this season. He should be a fine starting candidate in most fantasy leagues Saturday.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija shaky in San Diego

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 22:48:12 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija allowed five runs - four earned - and five hits with four walks and four strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Saturday, July 16, against the San Diego Padres. He threw just 65 of his 104 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija has managed just one quality start over his past five starts, as his ERA has risen from 3.14 to 4.05 as a result of the rough patch. Still, it should be viewed as a bump in the road. He remains a solid play in NL-only fantasy leagues, most mixed formats and DFS play once he gets untracked.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija picks up ninth win

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 22:58:57 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija allowed two runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings of work against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, July 8. He walked three and struck out six.

Fantasy Tip: After a tough three-game stretch that saw Samardzija's ERA jump from 3.14 to 3.97, the righty heads into the All-Star break with some momentum after stifling the D-backs. While he has been up and down this season, Samardzija remains a legit starting option in standard leagues.

Giants | Extra rest helps Jeff Samardzija

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 15:59:39 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija is 4-1 with a 2.13 ERA through his five starts following five days of rest. In his 10 starts after the regular four days of rest, Samardzija is 4-4 with a 5.00 ERA. He is pitching on five days of rest against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, July 8.

Fantasy Tip: It's an interesting split, but it doesn't mean Samardzija is reliable against Arizona Friday. He's likely not worth starting in shallow leagues Friday, and he's more of a deep mixed and NL-only option at this stage of the game. He's allowed 16 runs through 16 1/3 innings over his past three outings, after all.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija knocked around

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 23:00:37 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija was bounced around for six runs, eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts over six innings in a loss Monday, June 27, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija has managed just one win over his past six starts, and he has allowed six or more earned runs in three of his five June starts, as his ERA has ballooned from 2.84 to 3.91. Despite the rough patch he remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues, as he'll get it turned around.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija shaky of late

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 15:33:33 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija is 1-2 with a 6.41 ERA and has allowed eight home runs in 26 2/3 innings in his last five starts after starting the year 7-3 with a 2.54 ERA in his first 10 starts.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija has a history of being inconsistent, and his fantasy owners haven't been thrilled with his performance of late. However, a matchup against the A's tonight at home looks nice for him to rebound as a contrarian play in daily formats. After all it is Shark Week, so Samardzija should be focused and ready to go.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija bombs out in Pittsburgh

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 21:50:47 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija was hammered for six earned runs, six hits and two walks in just three innings in a no-decision Wednesday, June 22, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It matched the shortest outing of Samardzija's career.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija had a complete game victory last time out, and he still has a 3.59 ERA and 1.16 WHIP despite the ugly outing Wednesday. He remains a must-start fantasy option in all formats and DFS play despite the egg laying.

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija (8-4) allowed one run on four hits in a complete game victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, June 17, with no walks and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija was only one out away from recording a shutout but hung on to earn his first quality start since May 24. His next start will come versus the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, June 22.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija blasted in loss

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 22:20:58 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija gave up four home runs in the span of nine at-bats Saturday, June 4, in a 7-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Samardzija gave up back-to-back blasts to OF Stephen Piscotty and 1B Matt Adams in the sixth inning.

Fantasy Tip: One bad performance isn't going to worry Samardzija supporters. His record is still a respectable 7-4, and you can still trust him in all fantasy formats. About the only thing to add is analyze the matchups. St. Louis has a formidable hitting lineup, which could give Samardzija fits down the road if the Cardinals see him again.
