Giants | Jeff Samardzija sharp again

Tue, 24 May 2016 23:31:46 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija pushed his May record to 4-1 with a win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, May 24. Samardzija allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings, making it the fourth time this month he has yielded a single run in a start.

Fantasy Tip: Coming off a tough season with the White Sox, Samardzija suddenly looks like a top-of-the-rotation workhorse for the Giants. His strikeout numbers are coming along as well, as he has now struck out at least a hitter per inning in five of his last six starts. It's looking like a potential breakout year for Samardzija.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija cruising in May

Tue, 24 May 2016 16:16:04 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija has a 1.42 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP in four starts in May.

Fantasy Tip: The Shark has gone at least 7 2/3 innings in all four of his starts this month, including going eight strong three times. He has struck out eight in three of his four starts. Facing the Padres for the second time in a week, Samardzija is a strong play everywhere.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija was tipping pitches

Tue, 24 May 2016 11:06:08 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija discovered late last September that he had been tipping his pitches with the Chicago White Sox based on the time he stayed set in the stretch. "I'm over fighting myself, I'm going to go with what feels natural," Samardzija recalled thinking. "Sometimes, you've got to hit the wall to realize that you've got to let go a little bit."

Fantasy Tip: The Shark's last two stellar outings with Chicago paved the way for his turnaround with the Giants in 2016. He's currently sporting a 6-2 record, 2.66 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 7.7 strikeouts per nine innings. Samardzija has been an incredible value so far for those that took the chance on him as their third or fourth starter.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija effective in win

Fri, 20 May 2016 05:42:49 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija held the San Diego Padres to three hits and one run, struck out eight and walked none in eight innings of work Thursday, May 19. He retired his final 19 batters as the Giants cruised to a 3-1 win.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija has been lights-out effective in his starts this year. He improved to 6-2 overall and just missed becoming the third Giants pitcher in as many days to toss a complete game. Play Samardzija in all formats as long as he is pitching dominantly like this.

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija allowed one run on eight hits in eight innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, May 13, to pick up his fifth win of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija has allowed three runs or less in all of one of his starts this season. He is scheduled to face the San Diego Padres in his next start and should be used in all fantasy leagues.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija has best outing as Giant

Tue, 03 May 2016 19:47:15 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija churned out his best start with his new team Tuesday, May 3, against the Cincinnati Reds. He worked eight terrific innings, allowing just one run on three hits, one being a fifth-inning solo homer. He also registered nine strikeouts and two walks.

Fantasy Tip: Other than a couple of uneventful outings, Samardzija has actually been real good thus far in his first year with the Giants, as this is the third time in six tries he's pitched into the eighth inning or beyond. With today's performance, he now also carries a very solid 3.32 ERA. It seems Samardzija has put behind his disappointing 2015, which is great news for his owners.

Reds | Zack Cozart out Tuesday

Tue, 03 May 2016 13:22:38 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (knee) is not in the lineup once again Tuesday, May 3, against the San Francisco Giants. Cozart's replacement is SS Ivan De Jesus, who will hit second against Giants SP Jeff Samardzija.

Fantasy Tip: Cozart is likely day-to-day, so keep him stashed on your bench until the team activates him. As for DeJesus, he is mostly a slap hitter with limited power so you may want to look for another shortstop in daily leagues.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija plays well Friday

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 05:44:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija allowed one run on six hits in 7 2/3 innings against the Miami Marlins Friday, April 22, to record his second win of the season. He struck out five batters and did not walk any batters during the game. He also went 2-for-4 with three RBI at the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija has posted solid numbers in his first four starts of the season and has not allowed more than three runs in any game. He is scheduled to face the San Diego Padres in his next start and could be an attractive starting candidate in most leagues.

Dodgers | Howie Kendrick in left field

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 16:43:40 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Howie Kendrick will play left field and bat seventh against San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija Sunday, April 17, with OF Enrique Hernandez receiving the night off.

Fantasy Tip: Kendrick has yet to record an extra-base hit since his injury-delayed debut, and you can leave him on the bench until his bat comes to life.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija average in debut

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 14:17:16 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija made his team debut Wednesday, April 6, versus the Milwaukee Brewers, lasting 5 1/3 innings and surrendering three runs on eight hits. He also walked three and struck out six.

Fantasy Tip: It could've been worse, as Samardzija yielded a ton of baserunners and gave up runs in the first three innings before finally settling in. Even so, it's also a little underwhelming for his owners, who probably want to see results right away after the right-hander was a big disappointment last season. There's still potential value here, however, if The Shark is able to recreate the success he enjoyed when last in the National League.
