San Francisco 49ers president Jed York said he is already pursuing new general manager candidates, and a full-time head coach will not be hired until a new general manager is hired, according to NFL.com. Along with former head coach Mike Singletary, the team also fired pass rush specialist coach Al Harris and inside linebackers coach Vantz Singletary. Candidates for the GM job include former general managers Floyd Reese, Ted Sundquist and Randy Mueller.

Jason La Canfora, of the NFL Network, reports New England Patriots senior football advisor Floyd Reese could have an advantage over other candidates for the Seattle Seahawks general manager. Reese worked with Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll while both were with the Minnesota Vikings early in Carroll's career. Their relationship and ability to work together could help Reese in the search. Carroll said he will have a role in finding the team's new general manager.

Paul Kuharsky, of the Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams said Tuesday, Jan. 23, the organization had no intention of retaining departed general manager Floyd Reese and needed to go in a new direction with a different general manager in place. Reese resigned Jan. 5 before his contract was set to expire. "It was a hard decision to make," Adams said. "Floyd's been with us all these years and done a great job and I have no complaint with him. It's just that things were not as I would like to see in the operation of the team in Nashville and so I thought we had to make a change and unfortunately it had to be Floyd that I picked to leave."

Paul Kuharsky, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher is not looking to hold a dual role of coach/general manager after the resignation of general manager Floyd Reese Friday, Jan. 5. "I believe it's important to work with someone you can agree with or you can agree to disagree with," Fisher said. "Because I think if you put those decision-making responsibilities on one person's shoulders, then I think you're not afforded the checks and balances which are required to make good decisions."

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans general manager Floyd Reese resigned Friday, Jan. 5, after 13 seasons in that role with the organization. "Today I informed the Titans that I will be offering my resignation, effective immediately," Reese said in a statement released by the team. "Initially, I had hopes of signing a contract extension and staying with the Titans for many more years, but it became apparent to me over the last several months that that would be difficult. Rather than drag out a process that would probably end up with us going our separate ways, the right thing to do is to cut ties now and let the Titans move on and me as well."
