The Associated Press reports Atlanta Falcons OT Wayne Gandy, who came over to the Falcons from the New Orleans Saints in the offseason, has adapted well to the team's zone-blocking scheme after playing in a man-to-man blocking scheme with the Saints. "There's a real maturity about him," Mora said. "He takes coaching well. A lot of 35-year-old guys, if they had to change systems, would be a little resistant. He's shown no resistance."

"It was one of those things where no one ever came out directly and asked me to take a pay cut, but there were some things said that led (agent Neil Schwartz) to believe that something like that might happen," Gandy said. "But everything is fine now. It's not an issue." Gandy said he's happy with the changes to the offensive scheme and is excited about the potential of the offensive line.

Jeff Duncan, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis disputed claims by OT Wayne Gandy saying the Saints asked him to take a pay cut. According to Gandy's agent Neil Schwartz, Saints officials want to cut the $5.25 million base salary that's due Gandy this season. Schwartz said Saints officials cited "non-productivity" as the main reason for the pay cut. Schwartz and Gandy declined the request during meetings with Saints officials at the team's minicamp June 10-11. "I don't know where this came from," Schwartz said. "Wayne graded out at 90 to 95 percent in every game but one this year, and he graded at 89 percent in the other." Loomis, however, said he "never asked Wayne to reduce his salary. I haven't done that. I don't know where that story came from."

Larry Weisman, of USATODAY.com, reports New Orleans Saints QB Aaron Brooks is standing behind OT Wayne Gandy. The Saints approached Gandy and asked him to take a pay cut for the 2005 season and so far he has refused. Because of an accelerator in the contract he signed in 2003 when he joined the Saints as a free agent, his base salary is $5.25 million. Brooks says this about Gandy: "I think the guy deserves every penny of it." Brooks is hoping the Saints find a way to keep his back side protector, Gandy. "Tapping on Wayne's shoulder for a pay cut is not the answer," Brooks says. "That's kind of unfair, in my opinion. I respect him. I look up to him, as a player and as a person."
