The Cleveland Indians optioned INF Jason Donald to Triple-A Columbus Saturday, May 12, and they purchased the contract of 2B Jose Lopez from Columbus. The team also designated OF Nick Weglarz for assignment to make room for Lopez on the 40-man roster.

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Donald belted a three-run home run to right field in the exhibition game in Zebulon, N.C. against the team's new Class A affiliate, the Carolina Mudcats. He finished the afternoon with five RBI. For his first at-bat, the public address announcer mistakenly called him Luke Donald, drawing laughter from the dugout. A lot of Donald's teammates serenaded him with a "Let's go Luke!" chant. In Donald's second at-bat, the public address announcer corrected himself.

The Philadelphia Phillies were trying to acquire INF Jason Donald from the Cleveland Indians, but the Indians don't want to trade him. The Detroit Tigers tried to interest the Phils in 3B Brandon Inge, but they aren't biting.

The Cleveland Indians signed Ps Carlos Carrasco, Jeanmar Gomez, David Huff, Corey Kluber, Danny Salazar, Tony Sipp and Josh Tomlin, OFs Michael Brantley, Aaron Cunningham, Thomas Neal and Nick Weglarz, INFs Jason Donald, Matt LaPorta and Cord Phelps and C Carlos Santana to one-year deals Saturday, March 3.

Cleveland Indians INF Jason Donald is expected to see an equal amount of playing time at second base, shortstop and third base during the early portion of spring training, with opportunities to play the outfield coming later in camp. He is considered a front-runner to earn a spot on the bench.

Cleveland Indians SS Jason Donald (finger) was scratched from the lineup Monday, Aug. 29, with a bruised right index finger. 2B Cord Phelps will replace Donald in the lineup.
