The Philadelphia Phillies placed RP Ryan Madson (hand) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, June 28, and recalled P Drew Carpenter in a corresponding move. The DL stint is retroactive to June 19.

Fantasy Tip: Charlie Manuel said Antonio Bastardo will probably see more saves over Michael Stutes with Jose Contreras (forearm) and Brad Lidge (shoulder) also on the DL. Bastardo has found a nice niche for himself in the ‘pen this year, striking out 33 in 28 innings for a 0.96 ERA. The southpaw is worth an add in all formats while Madson is on the shelf. Stutes is a consolation prize if you lose out on Bastardo.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Drew Carpenter is making the switch from a starter to a reliever, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. "We'll try to simplify some things," pitching coach Rich Dubee said. "Get him back to a fastball, cutter, split guy. We think he has enough stuff to get through a lineup one time. Getting deeper was maybe a little too difficult."
