Okobi said, "I'll put it like this. is year six for me. The scouting department, the coaches, they've had a lot more time to evaluate me. I would think they have a pretty high opinion of me as a player." C Marvin Philip has filled in for Okobi and performed well. Okobi added, "Marvin's a good player. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been drafted if he wasn't. But I wouldn't anticipate in a matter of weeks he could erase everything I've done over the last five, six years."

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports Pittsburgh Steelers OC Chukky Okobi (neck) underwent Wednesday surgery, Aug. 9, to repair a herniated disc in his neck, and while he could miss extended playing time and possibly the entire 2006 season, the injury does not appear as serious as originally believed. "It might not be as bad as we first thought," head coach Bill Cowher said Wednesday morning.

Bob Labriola, of Steelers.com, reports Pittsburgh Steelers backup OC Chukky Okobi (neck) was diagnosed with a possible herniated disc in his neck, and head coach Bill Cowher said the injury could threaten Okobi's 2006 season as well as his football career. "We received some bad news. Chukky may have a herniated disc in his neck, and it could be very significant," said Cowher. "He could be having surgery, maybe as early as (Wednesday, Aug. 9). It does not look good."
