Indians | Josh Tomlin penciled in rotation

Tue, 26 Jan 2016 11:46:16 -0800

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin is currently penciled in the starting rotation for the 2016 season, according to general manager Mike Chernoff. However, Chernoff also noted that Tomlin has experience pitching in relief.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin will enter spring training as the No. 5 starter/swingman for Cleveland. He's not a strikeout arm and pitches more to contact, making him really only useful in deep AL-only setups if he keeps his rotation spot.

Indians | Josh Tomlin inks one-year deal

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 12:17:17 -0800

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin avoided arbitration and agreed to a one-year, $2.25 million deal Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Believe it or not, Tomlin actually holds the Major League record for most consecutive starts of five innings or more to begin a career with 37. He was quietly good last year after returning from shoulder surgery, logging 10 starts en route to finishing 7-2 with a 3.02 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. The potential is there for Tomlin to perhaps be one of the surprise All-Stars of 2016.

Indians | Josh Tomlin earns win Friday

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 19:33:16 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin (7-2) allowed two runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in a victory over the Boston Red Sox Friday, Oct. 2, with two walks and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) heads into the offseason on a positive note, after having his worst start of the year in his previous outing against the Royals Sept. 26. He allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his ten starts.

Indians | Trevor Bauer to make spot start

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 18:03:11 -0700

Cleveland Indians P Trevor Bauer will make a spot start against the Minnesota Twins Thursday, Oct. 1, in order to give SP Josh Tomlin an extra day between starts.

Fantasy Tip: Bauer ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) was sent to the bullpen two weeks ago but only made one relief appearance. There's a possibility he will be on a pitch count Thursday, so FantasyScore owners should avoid using him.

Indians | Josh Tomlin has eight K's

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 15:55:26 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin matched a season high with eight strikeouts and improved to 6-2 overall as his team scored a 6-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) won for the sixth time in eight decisions and remains a solid FantasyScore option at the price. He should be one of the Indians' top starters in 2016.

Indians | Josh Tomlin hurls complete game

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 18:31:20 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin (4-1) allowed one run on four hits in a complete game victory over the Detroit Tigers Friday, Sept. 4, with one walk and six strikeouts. It was the third complete game of his career.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has thrown quality starts in four of his five outings this year. He will make his next start in the opening game of a four-game series against the Detroit Tigers Thursday, Sept. 10.

Indians | Corey Kluber scratched

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 09:36:45 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber (hamstring) was scratched from his start against the Detroit Tigers with a strained right hamstring Friday, Sept. 4. He'll miss at least a week, and it could prevent him from pitching again this year. He did not travel with the team to Detroit this weekend and will undergo tests and treatment in Cleveland instead. SP Josh Tomlin will go against the Tigers Friday night, and Cleveland has yet to announce a starter for Saturday, Sept. 5.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a potential death blow for Kluber's ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) if they were counting on him to carry them to a title this month. He had a nice matchup tonight against Detroit, too. You shouldn't drop him just yet, but be prepared for the possibility that he won't help you much more this season.

Indians | Josh Tomlin starting Saturday

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 14:03:49 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin will make the start against the Minnesota Twins Saturday, Aug. 15, in place of SP Cody Anderson.

Fantasy Tip: It'll be Tomlin's ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) debut with the team this year. He was 1-2 with a 4.22 ERA and 1.22 WHIP while fanning 7.2 hitters per nine innings in four starts for Class AAA Columbus this year. It could just be spot start for Tomlin Saturday, so his fantasy value in deep AL leagues could be brief. Avoid him on FantasyScore.

Indians | Josh Tomlin to work in rehab

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 21:01:52 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin (shoulder) is scheduled to make a minor-league rehab appearance for Double-A Akron later this week.

Fantasy Tip: He is making his way back from shoulder surgery in April. When he returns he is likely to work in long relief, but he could potentially make a spot start to draw the attention of FantasyScore players.

Indians | T.J. House all but handed No. 4 spot

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 13:38:12 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP T.J. House is the front-runner to be the fourth starter in the rotation. Danny Salazar, Zach McAllister and Josh Tomlin continue to battle for the fifth spot.

Fantasy Tip: House ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is a late-round flier for mixed leagues, but keep in mind, he pitched better last season with the Indians than he ever did in the minors. House's first start projects to be against the Detroit Tigers, which isn't an ideal spot for FantasyScore contests. However, Detroit could be without a couple middle-of-the-order bats, if Miguel Cabrera and/or Victor Martinez aren't ready to play yet. So House could have upside, especially at his price point. Continue to check back for updates on the battle for the fifth starter, but Salazar is deserving of a late-round selection in mixed leagues based on his high-strikeout potential.
