Indians | Josh Tomlin cruises to 10th victory

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 15:02:01 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin posted only his second win June 4 versus the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, July 17, yielding one run on six hits and a walk over 7 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin had split two decisions and earned four no-decisions over his previous six starts despite holding the opposition to three runs or fewer five times, so he was overdue for another victory. The 31-year-old doesn't bring much strikeout potential to the table, but it is hard to argue with what he does for a fantasy team with his wins (10), ERA (3.34) or WHIP (1.11). However, Tomlin should be benched in most leagues as he is scheduled to face Baltimore Orioles on the road Saturday.

Indians | Josh Tomlin beat around by Tigers

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 14:32:25 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin allowed eight runs -- five earned -- on seven hits and one walk while striking out two batters over 4 2/3 innings during Cleveland's 12-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin has had a few hiccups this season, but for the most part, he's proven to be a reliable end-of-the-rotation option in the majority of seasonal leagues. Following the rough outing Wednesday, Tomlin sits with nine wins, a 3.51 ERA, 1.12 ERA and 68 strikeouts through 100 innings this year.

Indians | Josh Tomlin hurls quality start

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 17:22:15 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin allowed one run on seven hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, July 1. He walked two and struck out eight.

Fantasy Tip: Since June 1, Tomlin has tossed six consecutive quality starts and has gone 2-0 with a 2.27 ERA. He's a solid pitcher to own in seasonal fantasy leagues, although his low strikeout totals may not make him the best option to use in DFS. Tomlin's next start will come against the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, July 6.

Indians | Josh Tomlin picks up ninth victory

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 14:31:51 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin defeated the Detroit Tigers for the third time in as many starts this season on Sunday, June 26, allowing three runs - all on solo homers to DH Victor Martinez (two) and INF/OF Mike Aviles - on six hits over eight innings.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin has served up more than twice as many home runs (18) as he has allowed walks (eight), which sums up the kind of pitcher he is - pitch to contact and let the hitter make the mistakes. The Texas Tech product is 5-0 with a 2.76 ERA this season on the road, where he will find himself again on Friday when he faces the Toronto Blue Jays. Given his weak strikeout numbers, he's probably not worth the risk in that matchup.

Indians | No decision for Josh Tomlin

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 20:51:53 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin allowed four runs - three earned - and five hits with no walks and three strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Monday, June 20, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin has won in three outings, but he still has four straight quality starts to actually lower his ERA from 3.79 to 3.32 since May 30. He has emerged as a must-start in all AL-only fantasy leagues and many mixed formats with his outstanding pitching this season.

Indians | Josh Tomlin holds Royals in check

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 21:00:38 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin allowed one run on seven hits in seven innings against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, June 14. He walked none and struck out five.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin departed with a 2-1 lead, but Bryan Shaw served up a two-run blast to Salvador Perez and Tomlin ended up with a no decision -- with better luck, Tomlin could be part of the 10-win club. While his lack of strikeouts keeps the righty from being a dominant fantasy starter, his strong ratios and steady work make him worth owning in all leagues.

Indians | Josh Tomlin looks to stop skid

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 22:18:32 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin is scheduled to start Thursday, June 9, against the Seattle Mariners as he looks to snap the team's two-game losing streak. He is 4-1 in five career starts against the M's, and 4-0 away from home this season.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin has emerged as a must-start fantasy option in AL-only and most mixed leagues, and he has become a favorite of DFS players thanks to his 8-1 record overall.

Royals | Salvador Perez successful against Josh Tomlin

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 23:28:16 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez had two hits against Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin on Sunday, June 4, in a 7-1 loss. Perez is now 13-for-20 against Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Sometimes a player is ready to play right away, and it turned out to be Perez. It's safe to say you can start using him in DFS formats, especially when Tomlin is the pitcher.

Indians | Josh Tomlin back on track

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 23:15:21 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings of work Saturday, June 4, in a 7-1 win over the Kansas City Royals. It was Tomlin's eighth win in nine decisions.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin has become the surprise ace of the staff, with the injuries to Carlos Carrasco and the struggles of Corey Kluber fresh in mind. Tomlin is a definite must-play in DFS formats and should be on your regular fantasy roster.

Indians | Josh Tomlin moves to 7-0

Tue, 24 May 2016 23:02:52 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin improved to 7-0 with his win over the Chicago White Sox Tuesday, May 24. He allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while fanning six over eight frames.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin has a 3.35 ERA and just 36 K's in 51 innings, but he has a great 0.98 WHIP. The low strikeouts have him remaining on a lot of waivers, and he should be picked up universally.
