The Atlanta Braves placed RP Luis Ayala (anxiety) on the 15-day disabled list with anxiety disorder Tuesday, April 30, and recalled RP David Carpenter from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

The Atlanta Braves have placed INF Blake DeWitt (back) on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained lower back. In a corresponding move, RP David Carpenter has been recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Atlanta Braves RPs Cristhian Martinez, Anthony Varvaro, David Carpenter and Wirfin Obispo are all competing for the last open spot in the bullpen. Two spots might be available if RP Jordan Walden (back) isn't ready for the start of the year. The team has backed off RP Jonny Venters for a week, and manager Fredi Gonzalez was vague when asked about the situation. However, Venters is expected to start the year in the bullpen. Varvaro and Martinez are out of minor league options, which makes them the favorites for a spot.

The Boston Red Sox added SP Allen Webster, P Alex Wilson, RP Steven Wright, C Daniel Butler, C Christian Vazquez and OF Alex Hassan to the 40-man roster. P Sandy Rosario, SP Zach Stewart, P David Carpenter, 3B Danny Valencia and 1B Ivan De Jesus were desginated for assignment.

Updating previous reports, the Boston Red Sox have acquired RP David Carpenter from the Toronto Blue Jays as part of the deal which allowed John Farrell to take Boston's managerial job. It was previously announced that the Blue Jays would receive INF Mike Aviles.

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie (oblique) and C J.P. Arencibia (hand) were activated from the 15-day disabled list. RP David Carpenter, P Joel Carreno and INF Yan Gomes were recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas. Lawrie will start right away. Arencibia is unlikely to start right away.
