Astros | Will Harris nails down third save

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 19:48:38 -0700

Houston Astros RP Will Harris allowed a run, hit and two walks in a shaky ninth inning Saturday, June 11, against the Tampa Bay Rays, but he held on for his third save of the season. He threw just 11 of his 23 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Harris has bagged three saves over his past three appearances, sliding into the closer's role for the struggling Luke Gregerson. He is a good add in AL-only fantasy leagues if he is still on the waiver wire, and not a bad short-term option in mixed formats if you're desperate for saves.

Astros | Will Harris could be matchup guy

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 10:47:29 -0700

Houston Astros RP Will Harris has not been officially named the team's closer, which means manager A.J. Hinch could elect to use him in high-leverage situations against the toughest part of the opponent's order.

Fantasy Tip: With Luke Gregerson temporarily demoted from the ninth-inning role because of his struggles, it looks like Houston could go with a committee approach involving Harris, Gregerson and Ken Giles. All three should be owned in fantasy leagues. Even though Harris has locked down the last two save chances, he's no sure bet to continue in the role for the long term.

Astros | Will Harris a closer option for Houston?

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 09:51:33 -0700

Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch isn't naming a closer, but speculated that RP Will Harris could see opportunities in the ninth inning. "Get him in fantasy baseball and see what happens," Hinch said.

Fantasy Tip: If you haven't already added Harris in your league if you're searching for saves, it might be too late. He's having a fantastic year with a 0.33 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings, and he's saved the team's last two games after Luke Gregerson has received a break during his struggles. Ken Giles might be the best long-term guy for the role, but right now Harris could be the favorite.

Astros | Will Harris picks up save

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 17:00:28 -0700

Houston Astros RP Will Harris threw a perfect ninth inning against the Oakland Athletics to pick up his first save of the season Sunday, June 5, and manager A.J. Hinch said Harris will have his chance to pitch the ninth inning as RP Luke Gregerson is eased out of the closer's role.

Fantasy Tip: Harris owns a miniscule 0.34 ERA this year, and while Ken Giles and Michael Feliz could also factor in the ninth inning, Harris' impressive numbers make him a must-add player if you need saves.

Astros | Luke Gregerson out as closer

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 16:56:40 -0700

Houston Astros RP Luke Gregerson will be eased out of the closer's role for the time being, manager A.J. Hinch said Sunday, June 5, and RP Will Harris, RP Ken Giles and RP Michael Feliz will all have a chance in the ninth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Giles has some history on his side, but Harris has the best numbers this year and picked up a save Sunday. If you are desperate for saves, both players are worth grabbing, but the committee approach will likely result in a messy situation for fantasy owners.

Astros | Will Harris dominating for Houston

Wed, 25 May 2016 16:48:19 -0700

Houston Astros RP Will Harris has been one of baseball's better relief pitchers this year. He entered the day Wednesday, May 25, with a 0.44 ERA and 0.63 WHIP. He posted a 1.90 ERA in 71 innings in 2015 with Houston. Harris has a string of 19 straight scoreless appearances, which is the longest active streak in the majors and the longest for an Astros reliever since Wilton Lopez went 20 straight in 2010. He has mainly served as the team's eighth-inning setup man because of RP Ken Giles' struggles. Opponents are hitting .120 against Harris' curveball.

Fantasy Tip: Harris' numbers and Giles' struggles have led many in deeper mixed and AL-only leagues to scoop him up for his numbers alone. It's unknown who would receive the first crack at saves if Luke Gregerson is booted from the ninth inning, but Harris sure is a fine speculative grab, especially if you need help with your pitching ratios.
