Updating an earlier story, Packers.com reports the Green Bay Packers have placed RB Jason Brookins on the reserve/left squad list. The Packers retain rights to Brookins and also receive a temporary roster exemption from the NFL.

John Clayton reports for ESPN.com Green Bay Packers RB Jason Brookins may have basically cut himself from the team. On Tuesday, Brookins was asked for his playbook by a Packers official and he thought the request meant that he was being released. The team simply wanted to add more plays to the playbook. Problem was, Brookins left camp to go home. On Tuesday, the Packers told agent Steve Weinberger that they wanted to bring Brookins back, but today (Wednesday) that is no longer a certainty. "We're awaiting word on what coach Mike Sherman wants to do,'' Weinberger said.

The Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers might give backup RBs Ki-Jana Carter and Jason Brookins another chance to unseat RBs Rondell Mealey and rookie Tony Fisher as the primary backups at RB. Carter looked better last week than he did earlier in camp. Brookins is bothered by a toe injury, but also is still in the running for a job.

The Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers have ended their experiment of moving RB Jason Brookins to fullback. "It was an experiment to see if we could improve his blocking," coach Mike Sherman said. "We have, but he's not going to be a fullback. He's going to be a tailback." he makes the team, the Packers probably would ask him to double as a backup fullback.
