Cincinnati Reds OF Ryan Ludwick's one-year deal contains a mutual option for the 2013 season. Ludwick could form a platoon in left field with OF Chris Heisey.

Cincinnati Reds OF Chris Heisey has his mind set on being the team's starting left fielder next season. "I've lost about 10 pounds," Heisey said. "I'm down to the weight I was at '09 when I had a really good year. Since then, I've put on weight every year. I don't know if it's the big league food or not playing every day."

Cincinnati Reds OF Chris Heisey could be the team's best current option to start in left field next season. The other options are OFs Todd Frazier and Dave Sappelt. OF Denis Phipps could be the wild card in this situation, but he's likely to start the year at Triple-A Louisville.

Cincinnati Reds OF Drew Stubbs was not in the lineup in favor of OF Chris Heisey Monday, Sept. 26, for the third time in the last five games. Stubbs is not dealing with any injuries. Heisey is unlikely to take over as the starter in center field next season.

The Cincinnati Reds are expected to recall OF Juan Francisco, OF Chris Valaika, C Devin Mesoraco and Ps Carlos Fisher, Jared Burton, Matt Maloney and Jeremy Horst when rosters expand Thursday, Sept. 1. OF Chris Heisey (oblique) will also be activated from the disabled list. Ps Edinson Volquez and Travis Wood are expected to be brought up Monday, Sept. 5.

Cincinnati Reds OF Chris Heisey (oblique) is expected to come off the 15-day disabled list Thursday, Sept. 1, when rosters expand. He was in Cincinnati Tuesday, Aug. 30, to take batting practice after getting a day off from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville. "I've been feeling better each time out," Heisey said. He is expected to play one more rehab game with Louisville Wednesday, Aug. 31.

Cincinnati Reds OF Chris Heisey (oblique) took batting practice Friday, Aug. 26, and then he was re-evaluated. He might begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend, and re-join the team Sept. 1, according to manager Dusty Baker.
