Updating previous reports, Baltimore Orioles 1B/OF Chris Davis will receive $3.5 million per year from 2023-32 and $1.4M per year from 2033-37 to account for the $42 million he deferred.

Orioles | Chris Davis returning to Baltimore

Sat, 16 Jan 2016 06:37:52 -0800

Free-agent 1B Chris Davis (Orioles) has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Orioles on a seven-year deal worth $161 million.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is coming off a terrific 2015 season where he hit .262 with 47 home runs and 117 RBI. Davis should be in the middle of the lineup for the Orioles this season and probably will be an early-round pick because of his power.

Orioles | Chris Davis out in Baltimore?

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 16:24:00 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles are growing frustrated with free-agent 1B Chris Davis' (Orioles) contract demands and could be close to walking away, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: This news coincides with the O's interest in signing Yoenis Cespedes. It's looking like Davis' future isn't in Baltimore. While Davis possesses elite raw power, a move out of Baltimore could hurt his fantasy appeal. Stay tuned.

MLB | Chris Davis expected to take his time

Mon, 11 Jan 2016 12:03:38 -0800

Free-agent 1B Chris Davis (Orioles) will likely sign in February or March, in the opinion of Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter.

Fantasy Tip: Where Davis signs isn't of significant fantasy concern, as his power will continue to play in all stadiums. Over his past four seasons, Davis has averaged 86 runs, 40 home runs and 103 RBI per year with a .256/.342/.533 slash line. Note his .196 batting average might be more of an anomaly than his .286 mark in 2013. Stay tuned for updates.

MLB | Chris Davis being marketed as outfielder

Sun, 10 Jan 2016 07:03:12 -0800

Scott Boras, the agent for free-agent 1B/OF Chris Davis (Orioles), is increasingly trying to market his client as a corner outfielder, now that OFs Alex Gordon (Royals) and Denard Span (Giants) have been signed within the past week.

Fantasy Tip: Since 2012, Davis has seen 60 games in right field and 11 games in left field for the O's and is considered an average defensive player at best at those positions. He is a tremendous source of power and will be a productive fantasy option regardless of where he lands, although owners will also have to deal with high strikeout totals and frequently low batting averages.

Orioles | No update with O's, Chris Davis

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 21:18:58 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles want to re-sign free-agent 1B Chris Davis, but there are no updates regarding his status. The team is not believed to be interested in signing him at his asking price of $150 million. His agent plans to carry negotiations into January, waiting for a team to offer more than the Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is a tremendous source of power and great bat for the lineup, but the O's are playing it smart by not overpaying for a guy who also strikes out quite a bit.

Orioles | Chris Davis continues O's talks

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 10:17:42 -0800

Free-agent 1B/OF Chris Davis' (Orioles) agent, Scott Boras, and Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos continue to have dialogue by phone.

Fantasy Tip: Crash's fantasy peak would be to re-sign with Baltimore, but he'll be an OF1 consideration just about anywhere in 2016.

Angels | Halos not pursuing free-agent sluggers

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 17:03:40 -0800

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are not in serious talks with free-agent OFs Yoenis Cespedes (Mets), Alex Gordon (Royals) or Justin Upton (Padres) or free-agent 1B/OF Chris Davis (Orioles), according to owner Arte Moreno. Additionally, Moreno said the club did not make an offer to OF Jason Heyward before he signed with the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: The Angels will likely fill their gaping hole in left field alongside OFs Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun with an internal candidate or lower-profile free agent. OFs David Murphy and Shane Victorino shared time at the position at the end of the 2015 season but both players left via free agency. If the season began today, Daniel Nava and Craig Gentry would be the most likely in-house candidates to play left field but neither player would be useful outside of AL-only fantasy leagues.

Orioles | Nothing new on Chris Davis

Tue, 15 Dec 2015 11:25:30 -0800

Baltimore Orioles executive Jim Duquette said there are no new developments in the team's effort to re-sign 1B Chris Davis.

Fantasy Tip: Davis had 47 home runs in 2015 and is two years removed from a 53-home run season. It's safe to say he has elite power for fantasy owners, which makes him costly despite high strikeout totals and frequently low averages. Remaining in Baltimore and hitter-friendly Camden Yards would be the best thing for his fantasy value, but he has the kind of power that plays anywhere.
