Nationals | Doug Fister continues progression

Fri, 29 May 2015 14:49:55 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) threw Friday, May 29, as he continues his slow build-up process towards returning.

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) wasn't himself before the injury, and with his career 6.0 K/9 (just 5.1 since the beginning of 2014), he might not be worth stashing. Especially, because there is no guarantee the 31-year-old returns to form when he rejoins the club. Tanner Roark ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) will remain in the rotation until Fister returns, and Roark is an excellent option in the majority of formats.

Nationals | Doug Fister throws off flat ground

Wed, 27 May 2015 15:39:46 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) threw off flat ground Wednesday, May 27. It was the first time Fister threw since he went on the disabled list Friday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: While Fister ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is recovery, Tanner Roark ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) will take his rotation spot and should have another three to five starts. Roark holds value in the majority of seasonal formats, and he is an excellent low-priced option for FantasyScore players. Over 37 career starts, Roark has a 19-11 record, a 2.86 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and a 6.2 K/9.

Nationals | Doug Fister to start throwing

Tue, 26 May 2015 20:33:20 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) is scheduled to begin throwing Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) may need to pitch in a few rehab games before he is able to return to the team. Tanner Roark ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) should continue to fill in for Fister while he is out and could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore.

Nationals | Doug Fister has flexor strain

Sat, 16 May 2015 16:24:25 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) has been diagnosed with a flexor strain.

Fantasy Tip: That is good news, but the severity of the strain will determine how long he is out. He's likely to miss at least a month. A.J. Cole tallied a three-inning save in relief Friday. He could take the open rotation spot. Keep an eye on him for FantasyScore usage.

Nationals | Doug Fister placed on DL

Fri, 15 May 2015 15:35:34 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 15, because of forearm tightness. The team also recalled P A.J. Cole from Class AAA Syracuse (N.Y.).

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Fister ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is dealing with a serious injury, so owners should monitor the situation over the next several days. Tanner Roark ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) and Cole are options to join the starting rotation while Fister is out but probably are not great fantasy options at this point.

Nationals | Doug Fister has bad outing

Fri, 15 May 2015 04:45:09 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister allowed seven runs on eight hits in two innings as the Nationals lost 8-3 to the San Diego Padres on Thursday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: These outings happen, and Fister ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) looks like he just ran into a brick wall. He had been very effective prior to this. Chalk it up as a bad outing and keep Fister as a solid option for your daily leagues moving forward.

Nationals | Doug Fister has it on lockdown

Wed, 13 May 2015 18:50:17 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister heads into his probable start Thursday, May 14, against the San Diego Padres allowing just two runs over his past 13 innings.

Fantasy Tip: The Nationals have won seven of their past 10 meetings with the Padres, and they're 9-4 in their past 13 trips to San Diego, so FantasyScore players will want Fister ($6,000; 12.0% of cap) on their radar Wednesday.

Nationals | Doug Fister to start Sunday

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 17:58:09 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister has been pushed from Saturday, May 2, to Sunday, May 3, as manager Matt Williams shuffled his rotation a bit for the weekend series to squeeze in SP Max Scherzer (thumb) for the game Friday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($6,200; 12.4% of cap) will square off against Dillon Gee in a day game, rather than face Jonathon Niese in a night contest. Fister posted a stellar 5-1 record with a 1.90 ERA in seven starts with his only complete game of the season in day action last season, so he enjoys pitching under the sun. FantasyScore owners should take advantage of the break.

Nationals | Doug Fister off to strong start

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 19:45:09 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister allowed four hits and one earned run in 6 2/3 innings in a win over the Philadelphia Phillies Thursday, April 16, and he owns a 0.69 ERA through two starts this season.

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) may be Washington's No. 5 starter, but that speaks more to the depth of the Nationals' rotation than to Fister's ability. He won 16 games and posted a 2.41 ERA last season and is picking up where he left off. He makes a solid option at FantasyScore against most opponents.

Nationals | Financial decisions loom

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 17:11:40 -0800

The Washington Nationals have decisions to make on offering extensions to SP Jordan Zimmermann, SP Doug Fister, SS Ian Desmond and OF Denard Span after the 2015 season. Last month, Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo sounded as if the team would be intact for the start of spring training, according to MLB.com's Bill Ladson.
