Nationals | Doug Fister tosses a gem

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 20:09:34 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister allowed four hits and struck out four over seven scoreless innings in a win over the Atlanta Braves Thursday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) was making his second start since coming off the disabled list, and he performed much better than he did in his first outing. Overall, Fister has been shaky this season, so wait until he delivers a couple of more solid starts before trusting him at FantasyScore.

Nationals | Doug Fister faces tough matchup

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 19:13:41 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) will come off the 15-day disabled list and return to the rotation Thursday, June 17, against the Tampa Bay Rays. He faces a difficult matchup against Rays SP Chris Archer, who is 5-0 with a 0.51 ERA in five road outings this season.

Fantasy Tip: It might be a good idea for FantasyScore players to hold off on Fister ($4,800; or 9.6% of cap) given the fact he is coming off an injury and he is facing a tough matchup.

Nationals | Doug Fister to return next week

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 06:49:21 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) threw six innings in a rehab start with Class AA Harrisburg Friday, June 12. Fister didn't allow a run, and he is expected to throw a bullpen session before rejoining the Nationals next week.

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) hasn't started in the major leagues since May 14, when he was torched by the San Diego Padres for seven earned runs. FantasyScore owners will need to allow Fister to make a couple of starts and getting adjusted to major league hitting, but if he can carry his success over from the rehab start, he'll be a legitimate option soon.

Nationals | Doug Fister to rehab Friday

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 14:32:06 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) will make a rehab start for Class AA Harrisburg Friday, June 12, and he's expected to throw up to 75 pitches. He could come off the disabled list if everything goes according to plan.

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is close to a return to the rotation, so check to see if his previous owner dumped him. He's purely a matchup play on FantasyScore when healthy, and there isn't a ton of upside since he was striking out just 4.1 hitters per nine innings before the injury.

Nationals | Doug Fister mixed in rehab start

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 14:52:58 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) had mixed results in his rehab start Sunday, June 7, at Triple-A Syracuse. Fister allowed seven hits and two earned runs in 3 2/3 innings, including one home run. He also struck out six batters and walked none.

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) struggled with his control at times, but the lack of walks and six strikeouts showed some signs of success. He'll need a couple more starts, but for now take this as a sign of promise.

Nationals | Doug Fister throws bullpen

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 16:55:01 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) threw all of his pitches in a successful bullpen session Thursday, June 4. "Doug threw 40-ish pitches in the bullpen today and he felt good," manager Matt Williams said. "He threw all of them -- his changeup, his curveball and cutter. He came out of it really feeling really good. To have a heavier load, we have to see how he is (Friday)."

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) will likely need a couple of rehab starts before rejoining the rotation. He doesn't have a high FantasyScore ceiling with a low strikeouts-per-nine-innings rate, but he can be effective in deep mixed leagues when his cutter is working and he's inducing plenty of ground balls.

Nationals | Doug Fister spins off-speed pitches

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 13:45:08 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) "felt good" after throwing approximately 40 pitches, including off-speed pitches, during his bullpen session Thursday, June 4, according to manager Matt Williams.

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is working his way back from the injury and appears set to return sooner than later at this point. He has underwhelmed early with just two wins, 4.31 ERA and 4.1 K/9. In shallow leagues, you should aim higher, but otherwise, Fister should be viewed as a low-end starter. It would be wise to allow him a start to prove his health and mound acumen before utilizing him in FantasyScore contests, too.

Nationals | Doug Fister will throw bullpen Thursday

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 13:51:39 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister (forearm) will throw a "heavier" bullpen session featuring all his pitches Thursday, June 4.

Fantasy Tip: Fister ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is replacable in shallow mixed leagues, as he has just two wins with a 4.31 ERA and 4.1 strikeouts per nine innings this season. Although, it appears he should return sooner than later. Continue to check back for updates on his recovery and return timeline.
