NFL | Former players sue over concussions

Thu, 22 Dec 2011 07:43:51 -0800

Former NFL players Jamal Lewis, Dorsey Levens, Fulton Kuykendall and Ryan Stewart say in a federal lawsuit that brain injuries have left them struggling with medical problems years after their playing days ended. The players filed the lawsuit against the National Football League and FNL Properties LLC this week in U.S. District Court in Atlanta. The players maintain the NFL knew as early as the 1920s of the potential for concussions to harm its players. They argue the league concealed the dangers from coaches, trainers, players and the public until June 2010, when it publicly acknowledged the health threats and warned players and teams.

Sun, 01 Nov 2009 23:22:04 -0800

Marla Ridenour, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns RB Jamal Lewis is planning to retire after the 2009 season. Lewis is leading the team's rushing game with 349 yards on the season, but he is averaging only 3.6 yards per carry and has not scored a touchdown. Lewis said he is becoming increasingly baffled about what the team's offense is trying to get done. Lewis said, "At the beginning of training camp, working as hard as we did, buying into everything that's going on, buying into the system, that's what needed to happen. I think that everybody bought in. That's when you did have a real clue as to where we were going and what we were trying to do. But then once things start going, week after week after week after week, it seemed like a blur."

Browns | Harrison still to receive work in Week 5

Sun, 11 Oct 2009 09:00:49 -0700

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Cleveland Browns RB Jerome Harrison will still receive carries in Week 5, even though RB Jamal Lewis (ankle) is active.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison's status as a lead fantasy back may be short-lived, but he's still a solid choice as a flex play, perhaps even a No. 2 back in PPR formats. He could have a big day against the Bills, but the uncertainty of his workload makes him a risk.

Browns | J. Lewis active in Week 5

Sun, 11 Oct 2009 08:53:35 -0700

NFL.com reports Cleveland Browns RB Jamal Lewis (ankle) is active in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: He was expected to play a limited role even if he was active, so fantasy owners should only play him in the a flex spot, if at all. Jerome Harrison could still lead the way. Lewis might prove to be a better desperation play than other backs you'd ride, considering he could get a goal line carry or two and the Bills' defense is certainly vulnerable.
