Updating an earlier item, Boston.RedSox.MLB.com's Mike Petraglia reports the Boston Red Sox have assigned OF Jason Place, their first-round selection in this month's First-Year Player Draft, to the rookie Gulf Coast League Red Sox in Fort Myers, Fla. Place was one of the highest rated high school outfield prospects in this year's draft. He is a five-tool, impact-type player.

USAToday.com reports the Boston Red Sox have agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with OF Jason Place, their first-round selection in this month's First-Year Player Draft.

The Boston Red Sox selected center fielder Jason Place, of Wren H.S. (S.C.), with the No. 27 pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft. Place has power, speed and a strong arm and projects to be a good corner outfielder. He didn't start playing baseball until high school.
