Tue, 07 May 2013 16:03:16 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Hank Conger is catching SP C.J. Wilson's fifth straight start, but manager Mike Scioscia said it has more to do with C Chris Iannetta's struggles. Scioscia isn't necessarily trying to pair Conger with Wilson. "First and foremost, we want him to get a little more of a comfort level behind the plate. He's doing a good job, but it just doesn't look like he's as comfortable as he needs to be back there. On the offensive side, he hasn't gotten a lot of hits to fall in, but that's secondary to what our starting pitchers need especially," Scioscia said.
Sat, 04 May 2013 11:52:37 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Josh Hamilton is not in the starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, May 4. C Chris Iannetta will catch and C Hank Conger will serve as the designated hitter.
Wed, 01 May 2013 20:56:26 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia used C Hank Conger for the fourth straight start of SP C.J. Wilson, but he said he is not pairing Conger and Wilson exclusively. Conger also started Tuesday, April 30, and was used again because Scioscia said C Chris Iannetta was still "a little stiff" after catching 18 2/3 innings Monday, April 29, against the Oakland Athletics.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 21:27:06 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia, pitching coach Mike Butcher and Cs Hank Conger and Chris Iannetta held a lengthy closed-door meeting Tuesday, April 16, with SP Joe Blanton. The pitcher has struggled, going 0-3 with an 8.59 ERA. "It was just a conversation, no real message," Blanton said. "They want me to get back to the things I was doing in spring training."
Mon, 18 Mar 2013 13:27:00 -0700 The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim signed C Chris Snyder (Nationals) to a minor league contract Monday, March 18. "We want catching depth; we're looking to provide the staff with as many options as we can. Obviously, Chris comes in on a minor league contract, so he's going to have to compete for a spot. John Hester, Luke Carlin and Hank Conger, all of them, still have an opportunity to win that spot, as does Chris," general manager Jerry Dipoto said.
Fantasy Tip: The signing likely means Conger is ticketed for the minors to start the year so he can work on his defense and throws to the bases. Snyder, or whoever else wins the backup job, will only be valuable in AL leagues or two-catcher setups.
Sun, 17 Mar 2013 20:00:31 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Hank Conger (thumb) left the Cactus League spring game Saturday, March 16, due to a left thumb cramp suffered while catching warm-up pitches.
Tue, 12 Mar 2013 12:57:30 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson likes working with C Hank Conger, which may be a factor that contributes to Conger making the roster.
Mon, 11 Mar 2013 13:56:12 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Hank Conger had three more throwing errors Sunday, March 10, but manager Mike Scioscia is happy that Conger is still being aggressive. Conger said he feels great and he continues to work on his throwing mechanics. He's 7-for-17 with two home runs and a team-leading 10 RBIs. Conger's throwing woes may ultimately keep him from winning the backup catching job.
Thu, 07 Mar 2013 17:11:05 -0800 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Hank Conger has been bothered by throwing woes in spring training; he has sailed two throws to the bases, bounced a throw and almost hit SP Jered Weaver on a throw to second base this week. He needs to find a consistent arm slot with his throws in order to be considered a viable backup to C Chris Iannetta this year. "There's a level you need to where teams have to work for their stolen bases," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Hank has the ability to get to that level, no doubt. Right now, he's not, but it's still early in the spring, and we're very confident he'll find that release point to do what he needs to do."
Wed, 27 Feb 2013 12:20:29 -0800 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia said C Hank Conger is "getting much better" behind the plate, but he is "still a work in progress" defensively.
