Padres | Ian Kennedy won't make start Friday

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 10:35:54 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy has left the team to be with his pregnant wife, and he won't make his start Friday, July 31. SP Odrisamer Despaigne will make the start against the Miami Marlins in Kennedy's place.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy is in the middle of trade rumors and could be dealt Friday, too. Stay tuned. Despaigne ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) typically is a weak FantasyScore play, but against the Marlins, who rank last in OPS against right-handers (.657), he could make for a very profitable sleeper play.

Padres | Ian Kennedy, Will Venable all but dealt

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 14:43:17 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy and OF Will Venable are considered all but traded, as the Padres are expected to make a number of moves before the trade deadline Friday, July 31, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) will likely be dealt to a contender, and he has the upside to return handsomely through the end of the season, especially if he lands in the right situation. After all, Kennedy has 52 strikeouts with a 2.83 ERA through 57 1/3 innings over his past 10 starts. Venable ($3,900, 7.8% of cap), on the other hand, projects to be a platoon player -- at best -- in his new digs. His value is likely to decline alongside his at-bats.

Blue Jays | Toronto in on Ian Kennedy

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 07:59:42 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy is an option the Toronto Blue Jays are considering in a trade.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) will lose some luster if he leaves Petco Park, especially for the American League. He's a midrange starter on FantasyScore.

Padres | Ian Kennedy pitching well

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 18:52:56 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy has a 2.63 ERA in his last four starts after compiling a 7.15 ERA in his first eight.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) was once a 21-game winner, but consistency has always eluded him. He could be worth a flier at FantasyScore while he is pitching well, but just be prepared for the hot streak to come to an abrupt end.

Padres | Ian Kennedy looks to bring 'A' game

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 19:14:16 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy is scheduled to face the Oakland Athletics Thursday, June 17. He is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in three starts in the month of June, his best month of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($4,800; or 9.6% of cap) has recorded 18 strikeouts over 18 innings in June, and he has 55 punchouts over 57 innings in 11 outings this season. Win or lose, he will give FantasyScore owners a solid amount of strikeouts.

Padres | Ian Kennedy snaps losing streak

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 04:34:30 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy had his four-game losing streak snapped when the Padres downed the New York Mets, 7-2, on Tuesday, June 2. Kennedy had allowed 20 runs and 24 hits, including seven homers, over 19 1/3 innings for a 9.31 ERA.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) broke out in an impressive way, but what was even more impressive was it came against the Mets and pitcher Noah Syndergaard. The numbers still don't weigh in Kennedy's favor for the price, however.

Padres | Ian Kennedy rocked by longball

Thu, 28 May 2015 23:39:28 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy has allowed seven home runs and 20 earned runs in his last four starts combined.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has definitely struggled in recent outings, which should alarm you enough to leave the Padres pitcher on your bench for now. Certain matchups may be intriguing, but he is giving up too much for Kennedy to make a difference in your lineup.

Padres | Ian Kennedy loses third straight

Sun, 24 May 2015 05:50:09 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy lost for the third consecutive start Saturday, May 23, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kennedy held the Dodgers to two runs off six hits and zero walks through six innings, but he didn't get any run support. Kennedy struck out six hitters.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) rebounded from rough starts in his last two outings, in which he allowed a combined 11 earned runs. Kennedy's strikeout rates have risen since his first two appearances of the season, and he can be considered for GPP tournaments Thursday, April 28, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Padres | Ian Kennedy helps avoid broom

Wed, 06 May 2015 21:40:42 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy allowed one earned run, six hits and no walks over seven innings with five strikeouts Wednesday, May 6, against the San Francisco Giants, helping the Padres to avoid the sweep.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy got off to a rocky start, going 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA in two April outings, but he is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two outings in the month of May. At $5,900 (or 11.8% of cap) he is a solid FantasyScore option.

Padres | Ian Kennedy to start Saturday

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 09:53:33 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy (hamstring) will come off the disabled list to start against the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) wasn't dealing with a serious hamstring ailment, so he should be good to use for FantasyScore users Saturday. However, you may want to avoid him in his first start back against one of the better overall teams in the league. Odrisamer Despaigne ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) will move back to a long relief role out of the bullpen, and that kills his short-term fantasy appeal in standard leagues.
