Royals | Ian Kennedy roughed up by Tribe

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 16:52:12 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy endured one of his worst starts of the season Wednesday, July 20, versus the Cleveland Indians. He lasted just 4 1/3 innings, getting knocked around for seven runs on six hits, including a season-high four home runs allowed. Kennedy also struck out eight and walked one.

Fantasy Tip: Well, at least Kennedy was able to provide something for his owners with that strikeout total but other than that, this was a disaster of an outing. It was the third time this season the 31-year-old allowed seven runs, and it ended a streak of solid pitching, as Kennedy had allowed three runs or less in each of his last five outings. Hopefully he can bounce back his next time out.

Royals | Ian Kennedy strikes out 10 Jays

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 19:20:37 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy struck out 10 batters in a no-decision against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, July 6. He allowed two runs on four hits and one walk over six innings.

Fantasy Tip: Although Kennedy has 103 strikeouts in just 99 2/3 innings, he has also allowed at least one home run in six consecutive starts and has given up 21 gopher balls this year (tied for second-most in the league). He should only be used in DFS if he has a favorable matchup against a team without much power in their lineup.

Royals | Ian Kennedy allowing the long ball

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 14:46:06 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy has given up 20 home runs this year, which is tied for the second most in the majors, and he's allowed at least one long ball in each of his last six starts. He's lost his last five road starts and is facing the Toronto Blue Jays on the road Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy is surely one to avoid tonight against a Toronto lineup with plenty of long-ball ability in a hitter-friendly park.

Royals | Ian Kennedy suffers loss Friday

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 19:17:05 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy (6-7) allowed three runs on six hits over five innings in a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, July 1, with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy has pitched well in his last two outings, walking four while striking out 19 over 12 innings. However, he makes a somewhat risky play for his next scheduled start versus the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, July 6.

Royals | Ian Kennedy fans 11

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 16:43:07 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy allowed one run on three hits while walking one and striking out 11 over seven innings in a win over the Houston Astros Sunday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy had been struggling a bit, but with a 3.96 ERA and solid strikeout totals, he is worth using in deeper mixed leagues.

Royals | Ian Kennedy serves up two more HRs

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 19:58:43 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy allowed two solo home runs over four innings in a loss Tuesday, June 21, against the New York Mets. He walked one and struck out two batters as his ERA moved up to 4.19.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy's overall numbers aren't terrible, as he is 5-6 with a 4.19 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. But he has served up 18 home runs in 81 2/3 innings this season, including 10 homers in 22 1/3 innings in four starts in the month of June. That simply will not do. Still, he is useful in most AL-only fantasy leagues, but mixed leaguers will likely want to shy away from him until he learns to keep the ball in the park.

Royals | Ian Kennedy defeats Cleveland

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 20:44:54 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy (5-5) allowed four runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings in a victory over the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, June 15, with two walks and six strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy had allowed 12 runs over 11 2/3 innings in his previous two starts but was able to record his first victory since May 7, snapping a streak of six winless outings. However, his inconsistency makes him a risky play in all formats, so he is not a recommended option for his next appearance versus the New York Mets Tuesday, June 21.

Royals | Ian Kennedy not good in June

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 14:35:36 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy has allowed 12 earned runs and six home runs in 11 2/3 innings in June, and he had just one strikeout in his last outing. Kennedy is 4-5 with a 4.06 ERA on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy has had an up-and-down season for KC in his first year with them. His strikeout numbers are his best asset (8.4 K/9) for fantasy owners, but his 3.2 walks per nine innings is what has gotten him in trouble. He's a risk-reward start tonight against the Tribe and is more of a matchup play in deep mixed leagues.

Royals | Ian Kennedy pitches around walks

Tue, 31 May 2016 04:53:29 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy walked a season-high five but allowed just three hits and one unearned run while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision against the Tampa Bay Rays Monday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: Aside from a couple of rough outings, Kennedy has been a dependable starter and a solid source of strikeouts. He should be owned in most mixed leagues.

Royals | Ian Kennedy bounces back

Wed, 18 May 2016 17:32:25 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy bounced back from his worst start of the season in his outing Wednesday, May 18, versus the Boston Red Sox. He worked 5 2/3 innings, surrendering two runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out a season-high nine batters.

Fantasy Tip: Impressively, that's now the sixth time in eight tries that the right-hander has surrendered two runs or less. This was a key outing also, as Kennedy was able to get back on track after yielding a season-high seven runs at New York his last time out. Given his overall numbers and the fact that he's averaging more than a strikeout per inning, Kennedy is someone to start regularly in just about all leagues.
