Royals | Ian Kennedy bounces back

Wed, 18 May 2016 17:32:25 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy bounced back from his worst start of the season in his outing Wednesday, May 18, versus the Boston Red Sox. He worked 5 2/3 innings, surrendering two runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out a season-high nine batters.

Fantasy Tip: Impressively, that's now the sixth time in eight tries that the right-hander has surrendered two runs or less. This was a key outing also, as Kennedy was able to get back on track after yielding a season-high seven runs at New York his last time out. Given his overall numbers and the fact that he's averaging more than a strikeout per inning, Kennedy is someone to start regularly in just about all leagues.

Royals | Ian Kennedy struggles against Yanks

Thu, 12 May 2016 19:10:07 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy (4-3) allowed seven runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the New York Yankees Thursday, May 12, with six walks and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This was by far Kennedy's worst start of 2016, after he had thrown five quality starts in his previous six games entering play Thursday. His ERA for the season jumped from 2.13 to 3.25 as a result of this disastrous outing but he will look to right the ship in his next start against the Boston Red Sox Tuesday, May 17.

Royals | Ian Kennedy tosses seven scoreless

Sat, 07 May 2016 17:38:26 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy allowed four hits while walking two and striking out six over seven scoreless innings in a win over the Cleveland Indians Saturday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy has now allowed two runs or less in five of his six starts this year, and he has 35 strikeouts in 38 innings. There is no reason he should be sitting on waivers.

Mariners | Norichika Aoki takes a seat

Sun, 01 May 2016 12:22:59 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Norichika Aoki is not in the lineup on Sunday, May 01, against Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy. SS Ketel Marte will replace Aoki atop the order, while OF Seth Smith will take his spot in left field. 2B Robinson Cano will fill the designated hitter role for the first time this season, while 2B Luis Sardinas will get a rare start at second base.

Fantasy Tip: Cano has started out slowly for the second straight season in terms of batting average (.226), but his power (eight homers, 24 RBI) is carrying fantasy owners at the moment. Conversely, Aoki has struggled mightily in his first season with Seattle and can be ignored in most formats until he is able to get his batting average more than 10 or so points above the Mendoza line.

Royals | Ian Kennedy turns in strong outing

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 20:24:18 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy allowed one run on two hits while walking two and striking out seven in seven innings in a win over the Houston Astros Thursday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy has allowed just one run through his first two starts while striking out 14. He is off to a fast start in his first season with the Royals, and his solid strikeout numbers make him worth picking up in all formats if available.

Royals | Ian Kennedy delivers for new club

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 20:11:37 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a win over the Minnesota Twins Saturday, April 9, allowing five hits and a walk and striking out seven.

Fantasy Tip: The move to Kansas City this offseason was a big upgrade for Kennedy, and at the very least, he is worth a look in AL-only leagues due to his respectable strikeout numbers.

Twins | Byron Buxton, Miguel Sano out Saturday

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 14:59:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton and 3B/OF Miguel Sano are both out of the lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy on Saturday, April 9. OF/SS Danny Santana will play in center for Buxton and bat second while OF Oswaldo Arcia will make his first start of the season in right field in place of Sano and hit fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton (2-for-14, nine strikeouts) and Sano (2-for-13, seven) have both come out of the gates slow, so most owners probably aren't going to have a problem with the day off. Santana and Arcia, who is celebrating his 24th birthday Saturday, can be left on waivers in most leagues for now, however, as both players are coming off unproductive 2015 seasons.

Royals | Ian Kennedy expects to make season debut

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 15:08:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy (hamstring) said his start Tuesday, April 5, is likely not in jeopardy, and his left hamstring was cramping more than feeling tight.

Fantasy Tip: Reiterating a previous tip, Kennedy's strikeout upside is attractive, and he'll pitch for an excellent team in 2016. However, a move to the American League could hurt his fantasy value, and Kennedy has been extremely inconsistent from year to year. At best, Kennedy is a No. 4 or No. 5 starter in mixed leagues, and you shouldn't target him until late in drafts.

Royals | Ian Kennedy exits early from final start

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 15:00:08 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy (hamstring) left his final spring training start with tightness in his left hamstring Wednesday, March 30, the team announced.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy has a target-worthy 8.3 K/9 for his career, and he is relocating to a better team in 2016, albeit in the American League. His ERA has bounced all over the place during his career and has been as low as 2.88 in 2011 and as high as 4.91 in 2013. Kennedy has upside, but he should be viewed as an end-of-the-rotation arm to target late in mixed leagues.

Royals | Kris Medlen named fifth starter

Sat, 26 Mar 2016 11:18:52 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Kris Medlen has won the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation, although manager Ned Yost said he may have his turn skipped the first time around. SPs Edinson Volquez, Ian Kennedy, Yordano Ventura and Chris Young are the club's first four starters.

Fantasy Tip: SPs Chien-Ming Wang, Danny Duffy and Dillon Gee were among Medlen's chief competition for the job throughout spring training camp. Medlen went 1-1 with a 6.57 ERA in four Cactus League starts but had 15 strikeouts over 12 1/3 innings. The 30-year-old right-hander can be ignored outside of AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.
