Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress notches 24th save

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 14:15:25 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress pitched a scoreless ninth innings with a strikeout to record his 24th save of the season during the Brewers' 6-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday, July 28.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffress is having an excellent season on top of the 24 saves with a 2.13 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP and 33 strikeouts over 42 1/3 innings, which makes him a middling relief option going forward. However, he's also been involved in trade rumors, which could take him out of save situations. It isn't out of the question to try and trade him now.

Mets | Mets monitoring certain relievers

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 11:51:13 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP Joe Smith and Atlanta Braves RP Chris Withrow are among the bullpen options being monitored by the New York Mets ahead of the trade deadline. The club views adding another reliever as being "more easily attainable" as opposed to a starting pitcher.

Fantasy Tip: It would be a boost for each Withrow and Smith if one were to land on the Mets, at least in leagues that score holds, as both would get more opportunities at such compared to their current employers. Jeffress, however, would receive a huge downgrade, as he would no longer be closing like he does for Milwaukee, and effectively so in that role.

Giants | Two Brewers on Giants' radar

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 06:40:05 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress and RP Will Smith have been scouted by the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants have been wavering on Santiago Casilla as their closer as he has blown five saves in 26 chances. Jeffress could come over and have a chance to slot in the ninth. However, odds are that he'll set up if he's dealt. Smith would only gain value if Jeffress is dealt and Smith is not. Both are worth owning universally.

Mets | NYM interested in Milwaukee relievers

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 09:55:14 -0700

The New York Mets have expressed interest in Milwaukee Brewers RPs Jeremy Jeffress and Will Smith, according to an industry source.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffress is 2-2 with a 2.35 ERA and 23 saves in 40 appearances this season, with nine walks and 28 strikeouts, while Smith is 1-2 with a 2.12 ERA in 19 games, with five walks and 15 strikeouts in 17 innings. A potential trade to New York would be more damaging to Jeffress' fantasy value, since he would no longer be closing games due to the presence of Jeurys Familia. Both relievers would be ticketed for setup roles if the Mets acquire them.

Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress available for trade

Mon, 11 Jul 2016 07:54:49 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress is very much available for trade, and the Miami Marlins pursued him before they acquired RP Fernando Rodney.

Fantasy Tip: If Jeffress is dealt, it will likely be to serve as a setup man, which would void most of his fantasy value. Will Smith would likely be next in line, but he, too, could be on the trade block. Smith is worth picking up if you're save speculating, but his K-rate is way down.

Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress earns 22nd save

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 12:05:02 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Washington Nationals Monday, July 4, to pick up his 22nd save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffress has allowed only one run in his last nine appearances and has a solid 2.52 ERA. He should continue to receive save opportunities and should be a starting option in all leagues.

Brewers | Tyler Thornburg fills in, nabs save

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 17:36:08 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Tyler Thornburg filled in for RP Jeremy Jeffress (eye) as the team's closer Wednesday, June 22, against the Oakland Athletics, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his second save of the year.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffress was unavailable this afternoon due to an eye infection, and it's unknown if he'll have to miss any additional time. If he remains out in the coming days or beyond, Thornburg is worth going after, as he's one of those current late-inning relievers around baseball who could probably excel as a closer, if given the chance.

Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress has eye infection

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 16:52:03 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress (eye) was unavailable to pitch Wednesday, June 22, against the Oakland Athletics due to an eye infection, according to manager Craig Counsell.

Fantasy Tip: Tough break for his owners this afternoon, as Jeffress missed out on a save opportunity as a result of the infection. Tyler Thornburg was able to close it out in his absence, and he's someone that's definitely worth rushing to the waiver wire for, should Jeffress land on the shelf. It's unknown as of now if he has to miss any additional time.
