Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress unavailable Tuesday

Thu, 19 May 2016 13:32:58 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress (rest) was unavailable to pitch the ninth inning Thursday, May 19, against the Chicago Cubs due to his recent workload. RP Tyler Thornburg filled in for the save opportunity.

Fantasy Tip: This is perfectly understandable, as the 28-year-old has pitched in five consecutive games spanning six days, and remember, this is the first time he's been a closer in his career. Jeffress has been brilliant up to this point, converting on all but one of his 12 save opportunities while putting up quality numbers, so keep leaning on him as a trusty closer.

Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress blows first save

Wed, 18 May 2016 05:18:47 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress blew his first save Wednesday, May 18, against the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: It was a minor hiccup, and his ERA sits at 2.50 with a 1.17 WHIP. He's not striking as many batters out as you'd like at 6.00 per nine innings, but he's a solid third reliever.

Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress earns another save

Sat, 14 May 2016 06:41:05 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the San Diego Padres Friday, May 13, to pick up his ninth save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffress has not allowed a run in any of his last four outings and has recorded one win and three saves during that span. Jeffress has performed well as the team's closer and should be used in all fantasy leagues.

Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress grabs fist win

Sun, 08 May 2016 06:14:00 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress allowed a single hit during hiss scoreless ninth-inning appearance and recorded his first win of the season during the Brewers' 13-7 victory over the Cincinnati Reds Saturday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffress appears to have a firm hold of closer duties for Milwaukee and sits with seven saves, a 2.84 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP and 5.7 K/9. The unimpressive supporting stats make Jeffress a low-tier reliever, but as long as he is heading to the bump in the ninth inning, Jeffress should be owned in all fantasy formats.

Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress notches fifth save

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 17:16:41 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress notched his fifth save of the season Tuesday, April 19, against the Minnesota Twins by putting together a perfect ninth inning. He's now 5-for-5 on the year.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffress has been awfully impressive for a guy who probably would have opened the season as a set-up man had Will Smith not gone down with injury. Nonetheless, Jeffress has been tremendous in the season's first couple of weeks and change, and he should keep it up while he's rolling with confidence. Don't be afraid to lean on him as one of your main closers, especially since the Brewers figure to play a lot of close games.

Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress earns save

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 01:04:19 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress picked up his fourth save of the season Wednesday, April 13, in a 6-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffress has not surrendered a run in five innings this year. Save opportunities might be fewer and farther between for Jeffress because the Brewers are projected to have a campaign below .500, but so far so good. With Will Smith's knee injuries sidelining him, Jeffress remains a solid backup for fantasy purposes.

Brewers | Bullpen roles undefined for Brewers

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 14:51:36 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell said he'll take a generic approach to the ninth inning with RP Will Smith (knee) out to begin the season. RP Jeremy Jeffress would seem to be the obvious choice for ninth-inning duties, but Counsell hasn't made an announcement. "You start thinking about how game situations will play out," Counsell said. "None of this is set in stone. The relievers' roles -- their jobs are to get outs." Jeffress has one save in 151 major league outings, and the other relievers in the bullpen have zero closing experience.

Fantasy Tip: Even though Counsell hasn't anointed him, Jeffress is likely to get the majority of the opportunities with Smith out, so he should be your first target as a third fantasy closer. Corey Knebel is a darkhorse candidate if you're scraping the barrel in deeper leagues.

Brewers | Will Smith, Jeremy Jeffress to close

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 11:44:26 -0700

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell said he plans to use RPs Will Smith and Jeremy Jeffress to close games depending on hitter-pitcher matchups. "Both of those guys are really good," Counsell said. "One throws left-handed; one throws right-handed. I think we should take advantage of that." If one of the closers takes control of the job, Counsell isn't opposed to giving that guy the job.

Fantasy Tip: Both relievers have the skills to be successful in the role, but Jeffress may be better suited for it since Smith is left-handed and could be used for matchup purposes earlier in games. Either way you slice it, they are both third fantasy closers because of the committee and while playing for a rebuilding Brewers team. Corey Knebel is a darkhorse candidate for saves in much deeper leagues.

Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress throws BP

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 09:49:44 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress (hamstring) had an impressive live batting practice session Wednesday, March 16, and his next step should be to pitch in a spring game.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffress is in a battle with Will Smith for closer duties. Corey Knebel lurks in the shadows. Jeffress has enough time to be ready for the regular season. On a rebuilding team that isn't likely to win many games, Milwaukee's closer won't be highly coveted by fantasy owners. Jeffress is a late-round flyer in deeper leagues for those scraping for potential saves.

Brewers | Jeremy Jeffress progressing

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 10:03:33 -0800

Milwaukee Brewers RP Jeremy Jeffress (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, March 10, and face hitters a few days later.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffress is in the closer mix, but this setback may have hamstrung his chances. He's a speculative final-round flyer in fantasy.
