Washington Nationals 1B Chris Marrero (hamstring) is hoping to start playing extended spring training games by the end of April. He is recovering from a torn left hamstring suffered while playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic. Marrero has been taking grounders and swinging in the batting cages. "I want to get back on the field as soon as possible," Marrero said.

Washington Nationals 1B Chris Marrero (hamstring) will take full batting practice Friday, March 9, for the first time since undergoing surgery to fix a torn hamstring over the winter. He has expanded his running program and has taken ground balls.

The Washington Nationals signed Ps Ross Detwiler, Atahualpa Severino, Cole Kimball, Ryan Mattheus, Ryan Perry, Henry Rodriguez and Craig Stammen, Cs Wilson Ramos and Jhonatan Solano, INFs Ian Desmond, Danny Espinosa, Steve Lombardozzi, Chris Marrero and Tyler Moore and OF Eury Perez to one-year deals for the 2012 season Friday, March 2. OF Roger Bernadina and RP Drew Storen had their contracts renewed. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Washington Nationals 1B Chris Marrero (hamstring) underwent surgery to fix his torn hamstring and will miss the start of the 2012 season. "I'm not going to miss the whole year," Marrero said. "If you talk to people who had this injury, it takes a couple months to rehab from." The team was hoping Marrero could challenge for a starting spot at first base next year and be a power-hitting option off the bench.

Washington Nationals 1B Chris Marrero (hamstring) suffered a torn hamstring playing for the Licey Tigers in the Dominican Winter League almost two weeks ago. Marrero might be out for the season, according to one baseball source, although Marrero refuted the report. "I'm not out for the season, but I did tear my hamstring," Marrero said.
