Nationals | Max Scherzer finally gets support

Wed, 06 May 2015 20:44:04 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer allowed five earned runs, 10 hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts over seven innings in a win Wednesday, May 6, against the Miami Marlins. He entered with a 1.26 ERA, but the Nationals had scored a total of two runs in his three defeats. It was Scherzer'z 27th game with at least 10 strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Scherzer ($9,200; 18.4% of cap) would be unstoppable in FantasyScore if he received run support like this. He is a solid play for his next scheduled start May 12 in Arizona.

Nationals | Max Scherzer's tough luck continues

Fri, 01 May 2015 19:55:32 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer fell to 1-3 on the year with a loss to the New York Mets Friday, May 1, allowing one run on five hits and striking out 10 in seven innings.

Fantasy Tip: Scherzer ($9,200, 18.4% of cap) owns an impressive 1.26 ERA on the year and has 39 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings, but he has received no support from Washington's offense. It is only a matter of times before the wins start coming, and he is still worth starting at FantasyScore whenever he takes the hill.

Nationals | Max Scherzer to start Friday

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 17:56:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer (thumb) will make his next scheduled start Friday, May 1, against the New York Mets. "He threw against today," manager Matt Williams said Wednesday, April 29. "Just some light, flat ground catch and he feels good. He's ready to go."

Fantasy Tip: Scherzer is returning from an injury and facing Matt Harvey, so FantasyScore owners will want to hold off on him at $9,200 (or 18.4% of cap) until he can prove his health in a full start and he has a much more favorable matchup, too.

Nationals | Max Scherzer should return Friday

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 16:02:42 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer (thumb) threw a full bullpen session Tuesday, April 28, and should return Friday, May 1, against the New York Mets, barring a setback. Scherzer was scheduled to pitch Tuesday but was pushed back due to a sprained ligament in his right thumb.

Fantasy Tip: Scherzer ($9,200, 18.4% of cap) will be far from guaranteed the win, as he'll go up against Mets ace Matt Harvey. The Mets have cooled off after their 11-game winning streak however, and Scherzer will be worth a look on FantasyScore.

Nationals | Max Scherzer may return Friday

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 14:37:49 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer (thumb) could return to start against the New York Mets Friday, May 1, if he feels fine Wednesday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Even though he's coming off an injury and potentially facing a hot Mets squad, Scherzer ($9,200, 18.4% of cap) is worth paying up for at FantasyScore.

Nationals | A.J. Cole to make his debut Tuesday

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 22:17:07 -0700

The Washington Nationals will recall SP A.J. Cole from the minors to make the start Tuesday, April 28, against the Atlanta Braves in place of the injured SP Max Scherzer (thumb).

Fantasy Tip: Cole will be making his major league debut. It's uncertain if it will be one-and-done or if he will get a chance to start again, but FantasyScore owners need not bother with him for now.

Nationals | Max Scherzer pushed back

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 19:07:05 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer (thumb) will not make his scheduled start Tuesday, April 28, due to a jammed thumb on his pitching hand. He suffered the injury in an at-bat Thursday, April 23. "I would think that before another five days he'd be back," manager Matt Williams said Monday, April 27. "But there's a progression there, too."

Fantasy Tip: The Nationals have yet to name a replacement for Tuesday, and will not do so until their game Monday is completed. FantasyScore owners will want to avoid Scherzer ($9,200; 18.4% of cap) until he can officially return and prove his health in a full start without any setbacks.

Nationals | Max Scherzer's injury not serious

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 14:30:38 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer (thumb) is expected to only need a couple extra days off and be pushed back in the starting rotation. He's unlikely to miss a full turn in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Scherzer ($9,200, 18.4% of cap) should be good to go later this week, and he'll continue to be an excellent FantasyScore choice with high strikeout potential.

Nationals | Max Scherzer likely to miss next start

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 11:12:51 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer (thumb) is doubtful to make his next scheduled start against the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, April 28. He was unable to throw without discomfort in his right thumb, which he believes may be caused by a sprained ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Expect the Nats to err on the side of caution with Scherzer ($9,200, 18.4% of cap), who is in the first season of a seven-year deal worth $210 million. If the team decides to recall a starter from the minors to pitch Tuesday, SP A.J. Cole appears to be the most likely option. RP Tanner Roark, who served as a starter for much of last year, is unlikely to move back into the rotation.

Nationals | Max Scherzer day-to-day

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 08:47:33 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer (thumb) said Sunday, April 26, his thumb injury feels day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Scherzer ($9,200, 18.4% of cap) has given up just four earned runs through his first four starts of the season and sports a 1.26 ERA. Scherzer has been lucky to not allow a home run yet this season, but owners will be continuing to throw him out there as often as possible, regardless of any regression. FantasyScore owners will want to own Scherzer as often as possible this year, so it's promising that he doesn't expect to miss any time.
