Braves | Mallex Smith sits again

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 08:46:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Mallex Smith is out of the lineup Friday, April 29, with OF Drew Stubbs hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: It's worth noting that it's against lefty Jon Lester, but Stubbs has now started three of the last four games. Stubbs is 0-for-8 lifetime against Lester and doesn't make a great DFS flyer. He does have four steals on the year, and he's worth owning in NL-only leagues.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur, Drew Stubbs in lineup

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:08:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur and OF Drew Stubbs are in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Wednesday, April 27. Francoeur will start in left field and is batting fifth, while Stubbs will start in center field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur has picked up at least one hit in five of his last six games with two RBI during that span. Stubbs has recorded five hits in his last 11 games but did go 2-for-3 in his last game. Francoeur likely is more valuable than Stubbs in most leagues and could be a desperation option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Owners should avoid Stubbs in most leagues.

Braves | Mallex Smith, Drew Stubbs sharing center

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:40:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves OFs Mallex Smith and Drew Stubbs will start against right- and left-handed pitchers, respectively, until OF Ender Inciarte (hamstring) returns from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has the most fantasy value because of his speed, and the fact that his side of the platoon projects to yield more at-bats. However, Inciarte is approximately two weeks away from returning to the Braves, so Smith and Stubbs only have fleeting value in cavernous mixed and NL-only formats.

Braves | Mallex Smith out, Drew Stubbs in Friday

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 12:32:31 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Drew Stubbs is starting in center field and batting eighth Friday, April 15, opposite Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen. He's taking the place of OF Mallex Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Stubbs hits lefties relatively well, but his value will be limited in this one while placed down low in the batting order. He's not an option for any season-long leagues either, as he hasn't received much playing time thus far for the rebuilding Braves. It's his first start since Sunday.

Braves | Atlanta to have rotation in LF

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 16:36:41 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Kelly Johnson and OFs Jeff Francoeur and Drew Stubbs will be in a three-man rotation in left field with OF Hector Olivera out indefinitely after being charged with assault and battery and being placed on administrative leave by MLB.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson received the nod Wednesday night, but this could be musical chairs in left field for a while. Johnson and Francoeur have some pop in their lumber, and Stubbs has a mildly intriguing mix of speed and power. However, with no consistent playing time available, none of this trio is anything more than NL-only fodder for now.

Braves | Ender Inciarte out Saturday

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 12:17:30 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Ender Inciarte (leg) is not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez on Saturday, April 9. OF Drew Stubbs will start in center and bat seventh while SS Erick Aybar moves up a spot to replace Inciarte atop the order.

Fantasy Tip: Stubbs was pretty much useless for fantasy purposes last year (.195 batting average and five home runs in 78 games between the Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies) but is only a season removed from a 15-homer, 20-steal campaign. He's not worth a start against Martinez on Saturday but could be worth stashing in deeper leagues if Inciarte is forced to miss multiple games.

Braves | Ender Inciarte won't be in strict platoon

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 11:34:10 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Ender Inciarte will not play in a strict platoon with OF Drew Stubbs in center field, although Inciarte is expected to sit versus tough left-handed starting pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: Inciarte hit .303 with six home runs, 45 RBIs and 21 steals in 132 games for Arizona last season, although he only hit .227 in 141 at-bats versus southpaws. He should be available in the later middle rounds of mixed-league drafts and he could reach 30 steals if he can improve his performance against lefties.

Braves | Drew Stubbs joins Atlanta

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 16:03:51 -0700

Free-agent OF Drew Stubbs (Rangers) signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves Wednesday, March 30.

Fantasy Tip: Stubbs has never been able to capitalize on his power-speed combination, but he could find notable at-bats in Atlanta. Over a full season with enough playing time, Stubbs still has 15-20 potential. In Atlanta he'd likely be a role player off the bench, but that could attract NL-only owners looking for some stolen bases at a cheap cost. Stay tuned.

Rangers | Drew Stubbs cut

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 09:51:33 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Drew Stubbs was granted his release Tuesday, March 29.

Fantasy Tip: Stubbs had a good spring with a .300-2-10 line with three steals, so it's very possible he could catch on and provide a single-universe owner some cheap HR/SB numbers.

Rangers | Rangers bring back Drew Stubbs

Fri, 26 Feb 2016 09:53:36 -0800

Free-agent OF Drew Stubbs (Rangers) has re-signed with the Texas Rangers on a minor league deal.

Fantasy Tip: Stubbs was just dreadful last year with both the Rangers and Colorado Rockies, slashing a putrid .195/.283/.382 with only five home runs and 10 RBI across 78 ballgames. And that's while playing in two of the most hitter-friendly environments in baseball. He had a fine showing in 2014, though, so the Rangers are hoping he can return to that form. With Josh Hamilton sidelined to begin the campaign, Stubbs will have an opportunity at some playing time. Most likely, though, he projects as a platoon player.
