Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw throws bullpen

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:25:32 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (back) tossed 35 pitches during his bullpen session Thursday, April 17, mixing in breaking pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Kershaw's body language looked great, and it didn't seem like his back was giving him problems at all. If he doesn't have any setbacks, Kershaw should be back in a few weeks.

Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw getting closer

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 08:49:48 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (back) hit 85 mph with his fastball Tuesday, April 15, and he will attempt to mix in breaking pitches off flat ground Wednesday, April 16, and throw another bullpen session Thursday, April 17. Kershaw could embark on a minor league rehab assignment soon after that. "It feels like we're getting close, but I don't know for sure," Kershaw said. "We're trying to raise the ceiling a little bit every day."

Fantasy Tip: The fact that Kershaw is throwing three straight days is great, but he's still a few weeks away from returning. He'll be a nice addition then when, hopefully, he's back to 100 percent.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (back) tossed 26 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday, April 15. He pitched from the stretch and the wind-up at nearly full speed.

Fantasy Tip: Kershaw won't be back for at least another few weeks, so remain patient and cross your fingers that he doesn't suffer a setback.

Dodgers | Could Clayton Kershaw's injury linger on?

Tue, 01 Apr 2014 18:14:20 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (back) is expected to be out at least for a month, but San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner (back) had a similar injury, and did not return to full strength for seven months. Cashner spent two months on the 15-day disabled list, and said his injury also involved a strained latissimus muscle. "There's nothing you can do," Cashner said. "There's no rehab. It's just rest. It's a very frustrating injury."

Fantasy Tip: Kershaw and his fantasy owners hope that Cashner's assessment that his injury is more serious is right, and that he regains his Cy Young Award form sooner rather than later. However, Kershaw's terrible spring stats and injury is worrisome.

Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw sidelined several more weeks

Tue, 01 Apr 2014 15:01:36 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (back) will be put on a rehab program that includes a submaximal throwing program for the next two to three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Kershaw's back injury has turned out to be much more significant than he or the team let on initially. He'll be re-evaluated in two to three weeks, which means he probably won't be able to rejoin the rotation for another month at the earliest. Paul Maholm will continue to lock down a rotation spot until Josh Beckett (thumb) is ready to return in mid-April.

Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw won't be back quickly

Tue, 01 Apr 2014 14:03:45 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said "this is going to take some time" regarding SP Clayton Kershaw (back), and Kershaw will likely have to pitch in some minor league games before returning from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: The Dodgers are being extremely cautious with their ace, so you'll have to be patient. The injury isn't significant, thankfully, so once he's built his arm strength back up a bit, he should be fine.

Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw to DL

Sat, 29 Mar 2014 16:41:43 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed SP Clayton Kershaw (back) on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Though he had a slight setback today while throwing, this isn't a surprise since he wasn't going to be ready for Sunday's contest. The stint can be backdated to the Dodgers' first game of the season on March 23, so he could be in line to start April 7. While his owners should be keeping an eye on potential replacements if this lasts for a longer stretch, this doesn't seem to be a big deal, and he should still be the first SP taken if you're drafting -- just maybe not in the first round.

Dodgers | Josh Beckett could be activated from DL Friday

Sat, 29 Mar 2014 11:06:22 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (thumb) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Friday, April 4. If SP Clayton Kershaw (back) is unable to start the home opener against the San Francisco Giants Friday, Beckett could be called upon to make the start. "We feel like he's ready to pitch," Mattingly said of Beckett. "For the most part, we'd prefer him to be built up a little further, but if he had to, he's going to be a guy who, by the time he is eligible, could help us."

Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw eyeing Friday return

Sat, 29 Mar 2014 11:01:45 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (back) told manager Don Mattingly that he no longer feels pain in his upper back after playing catch Friday, March 28. He is expected to play catch at a higher intensity Saturday, March 29, and if all goes well, he will start the home opener against the San Francisco Giants Friday, April 4.
