Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the media's response to potential surgery for SP Clayton Kershaw (back) is overblown. As of right now, there are no plans for Kershaw to have surgery.
Fantasy Tip: Kershaw isn't currently showing symptoms that would require season-ending back surgery, but he's not completely out of the woods yet and doesn't have a timetable for his return. Kershaw owners have to just remain patient and cross their fingers that he'll pitch again in the second half.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (back) may need surgery, according to manager Dave Roberts.
Fantasy Tip: The best pitcher in the world had a setback over the weekend and could be out another three weeks, raising the possibility of surgery. It's unknown how long he'd need to recover from surgery, but the possibility is there that it could be season-ending. The Dodgers remain hopeful he can avoid a procedure, though. For now stay tuned for more updates and keep Kershaw stashed everywhere.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (back) "didn't feel great" Sunday, July 17, and has been shut down indefinitely until his back pain goes away, according to manager Dave Roberts.
Fantasy Tip: Well this isn't good for Kershaw owners who were expecting him back from the DL later this week. With Hyun-Jin Ryu also landing on the DL Tuesday, the Dodgers' rotation is in dire straights again. Top pitching prospect Julio Urias is coming back up to start Thursday, but he'll be limited down the stretch. All you can do is stash Kershaw and hope for the best. He's the best pitcher in baseball when healthy.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Mike Leake struck out 11 and walked none in a 10-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Monday, July 18. Leake became the first pitcher to accomplish 10 strikeouts, no walks, and one run or less allowed since Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw last season.
Fantasy Tip: Keep in mind the Padres do not have the best-hitting lineup, but this is still a nice feat nevertheless. Leake also became the first St. Louis pitcher to fan 10 or more batters in consecutive starts since Lance Lynn in 2012. Leake, who is now 7-7 overall, is worth the start in DFS formats and may be working his way into regular leagues with his good work in the second half.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw's (back) first start in the second half remains undecided after he threw a simulated game Saturday, July 16, reducing the possibility he'll return to face the Washington Nationals Thursday, July 21. Kershaw hasn't pitched since June 26 with a mild disc irritation in his lower back. The Dodgers are being cautious and want to see Kershaw at 100% before his return.
Fantasy Tip: Despite not pitching since June 26, Kershaw remains the best pitcher in baseball and should be immediately returned to all starting lineups when he returns to the bump. Stay tuned for word on his progress.
