The Cleveland Indians placed OF Grady Sizemore (back) on the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, April 4. Sizemore will resume baseball activities "in a couple weeks." The team also purchased the contracts of INF Jose Lopez and RP Dan Wheeler from the minors and placed SP David Huff (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list. OF Thomas Neal was designated for assignment.

The Cleveland Indians assigned P Danny Salazar and OFs Thomas Neal and Nick Weglarz to the minor league camp Thursday, March 15. Neal and Weglarz are heading to Triple-A Columbus, while Salazar is being sent to Single-A Carolina.

Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta indicated Sunday, March 11, that more roster cuts will be coming Thursday, March 15. He noted OFs Thomas Neal and Nick Weglarz are in camp for experience, and not for jobs. They might be among the casualties Thursday.

The Cleveland Indians signed Ps Carlos Carrasco, Jeanmar Gomez, David Huff, Corey Kluber, Danny Salazar, Tony Sipp and Josh Tomlin, OFs Michael Brantley, Aaron Cunningham, Thomas Neal and Nick Weglarz, INFs Jason Donald, Matt LaPorta and Cord Phelps and C Carlos Santana to one-year deals Saturday, March 3.

The Cleveland Indians will likely move OF Michael Brantley to center field with OF Grady Sizemore (back) out for an extended period of time. OFs Shelley Duncan, Aaron Cunningham, Matt LaPorta, Russ Canzler, Ryan Spilborghs, Fred Lewis, Felix Pie, Ezequiel Carrera, Thomas Neal, Chad Huffman, Trevor Crowe and Nick Weglarz will all compete for the left field and fourth-outfielder jobs.

The Cleveland Indians have optioned OF Thomas Neal to Triple-A Columbus. Neal was acquired from the San Francisco Giants in a trade for SS Orlando Cabrera.

The San Francisco Giants made their first round of roster cuts Monday, March 14, reports Chris Haft, of MLB.com. The team optioned SS Ehire Adrianza, RP Jose Casilla, 3B Conor Gillaspie, RP Alex Hinshaw, OF Thomas Neal, OF Francisco Peguero, P Henry Sosa and SP Clayton Tanner to the minors. The team also reassigned OF Gary Brown, SS Brandon Crawford, SS Charlie Culberson, OF Terry Evans, RP Waldis Joaquin, C Tommy Joseph, SS Nick Noonan, OF Juan Perez, P Wilmin Rodriguez, C Hector Sanchez, P Jason Stoffel, P Ryan Verdugo and P Matt Yourkin to the minor league camp.

San Francisco Giants OFs Darren Ford and Thomas Neal are likely to start the season with Triple-A Fresno, reports Chris Haft, of MLB.com. Both are participating in the big league camp for the second year in a row, but the outfield with the big club is chock full of veterans. "I can't play general manager. That's too much thinking for me," Neal said.
