"As much as we've tried to improve our offense over the last couple of years, I think we've done the best we can do at this point in time," Moore said. "I don't know what else we're going to be able to do this winter."

"He is going to have some type of surgery, whether it is going to be [arthroscopic] or a Tommy John [elbow ligament replacement], we just don't know yet," general manager Dayton Moore said. "There will definitely be some type of scope, and then [we'll] evaluate it from there."

"I really don't care about money," Moore said. "I don't concern myself with it. It's about competition. If we have a better alternative that makes our team better for the short term and long term, we'll do that."

The Associated Press reports Kansas City Royals 2B Mark Grudzielanek (knee) will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee March 5 and is expected to begin the season on the disabled list. General manager Dayton Moore said Grudzielanek likely will miss four to six weeks, meaning he'll be out the first 10 days to two weeks of the season.

Dick Kaegel, of MLB.com, reports the Kansas City Royals have named Atlanta Braves assistant general manager Dayton Moore the new general manager. He will become the sixth general manager in the franchise's history. Moore will stay with the Braves until after next week's First-Year Player Draft. The Royals announced vice president of baseball operations Muzzy Jackson would serve as the interim general manager until then.
