Royals | Jeremy Guthrie likely to hit market

Sat, 27 Oct 2012 23:28:38 -0700

The Kansas City Royals acknowledge a new contract with SP Jeremy Guthrie is now unlikely before he hits the open market. "I think it's pretty safe to say he's going to explore free agency," general manager Dayton Moore said. "We'll continue to monitor how that goes. He's going to explore his options, and it's important that we do as well." Guthrie is said to want a three-year contract, but the team doesn't want to go longer than two years.

Royals | Improving rotation is top priority

Sat, 06 Oct 2012 23:42:32 -0700

The Kansas City Royals have suggested they would be willing to operate at a loss fiscally if it meant acquiring pitching help to guide the team. Royals general manager Dayton Moore hasn't given a payroll figure, but sources indicate the team's current $64 million payroll could rise as high as $75 million if it meant bringing in a quality arm.

Royals | Johnny Giavotella coming up

Wed, 09 May 2012 09:28:31 -0700

Kansas City Royals 2B Johnny Giavotella is expected to be recalled from the minors and will likely join the lineup Wednesday, May 9. "He's another right-handed bat," general manager Dayton Moore said, "and we need another right-handed bat over the next several days with all of the left-handed pitchers we're expecting to face." The Royals may decide to place SP Jonathan Sanchez (biceps) on the disabled list because he's dealing with biceps tendonitis, which the team thinks might be the reason for his drop in velocity and effectiveness. If that happens, Ps Luis Mendoza, Nathan Adcock or Vin Mazzaro could be candidates for the rotation. Giavotella is a right-handed option, so he won't necessarily become the starter at second base. He was hitting .331 with five home runs and 25 RBIs in 31 games for Triple-A Omaha.

Royals | No major roster changes expected

Sat, 30 Apr 2011 02:12:41 -0700

Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore is telling people to not expect any radical roster changes at this early stage of the season. "The philosophy is not going to change," Moore said. "The player has to perform, they have to have ability and there has to be opportunity. And right now, the sample size of performance isn't what it needs to be to have a comfort level in promoting players to the major leagues."

Royals | RHB outfielder needed

Tue, 07 Dec 2010 23:35:21 -0800

The Kansas City Royals are in need of a right-handed-hitting corner outfielder, according to The Kansas City Star's Bob Dutton. "We've got Alex Gordon, Gregor Blanco and Mitch Maier in our outfield right now," general manager Dayton Moore said, "and we have Jarrod Dyson competing. They're all left-handed hitters. So one could easily identify that we need a right-handed-hitting outfielder."

Royals | David DeJesus trade won't signal free agency moves

Fri, 12 Nov 2010 23:31:36 -0800

The trade of OF David DeJesus from the Kansas City Royals to the Oakland Athletics freed up $5.5 million on the payroll, but The Kansas City Star's Bob Dutton reports that will not automatically mean the money will be spent in free agency. "It's not cost effective at this time," general manager Dayton Moore said, "for us to be real aggressive with major-league free agents."
