The Tribune Review reports with four Pittsburgh Steelers cornerbacks, starters Chad Scott and Dewayne Washington and key backups Deshea Townsend and Jason Simmons, scheduled to become free agents at the end of the 2001 season the team will probably look to add a CB in the NFL Draft. The Steelers know salary cap reality has taught them it will be difficult to re-sign Scott and Washington. The Steelers can't afford to let their six picks in the draft pass without addressing the position at least once. The Steelers could pick a CB with their first round pick, No. 16 overall or roll the dice and hope a good corner is available in round two. They could trade down in round one to acquire other picks later in the draft.

Ward is currently a restricted free agent, the other five can become free agents after this season.
