"Even though (SPs Danny Duffy and Felipe Paulino) have a leg up on those spots, there are still things that have to happen in order for them to cement those spots," Yost said. "These other guys are guy who, if they do what they're supposed to do, could slide in."

"I'm not saying we're going to do anything (with Francis)," Yost said, "but I don't want take him 70 or 80 innings past what he threw last year. That's not fair to him." Francis is on pace for around six more starts, which would put him at 60 more innings than he threw last year. The team also plans to limit the workload of SP Danny Duffy and have him make one or two more starts. The team is looking at Ps Vin Mazzaro, Sean O'Sullivan and Luis Mendoza in the final month.
