Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison worked a bullpen session Friday, May 4, and found that his head wasn't staying straight in his delivery, and he was starting to drift to the side. The awkward mechanics were causing him to "sling" the ball rather than throw it properly. "I started hitting my spots with my fastball and everything else," Harrison said. "That definitely built some confidence in me." He's given up 14 earned runs in his last two starts.

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (3-1) allowed seven runs (six earned) on 14 hits over five innings in a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, April 27, with one walk and three strikeouts. Harrison's ERA for the season rose from 1.66 to 3.38.

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison allowed three earned runs, six hits and no walks over 7 2/3 innings in a win Saturday, April 21, in the first game of a doubleheader. He also recorded six strikeouts in the 120-pitch quality start, running his record to 3-0. Left-handed hitters are now just 3-for-28 (.107) against him this season. "It's improved a lot," Harrison said. "I'm trying to keep a good mix, move the ball in and out and use all my pitches and give them a different look."

The Texas Rangers may move SP Yu Darvish from the fourth spot up to the third spot between SPs Derek Holland and Matt Harrison. The team wants to protect its bullpen; by moving Darvish up, the Rangers would also have a lefty between Darvish and SP Neftali Feliz.

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison is trying to work inside more to improve his "reverse" splits against left-handed hitters. He held the lefties for the Chicago White Sox hitless in seven at-bats in his first start of the season in six shutout innings. "I stuck to my game plan against lefties," Harrison said. "I'm going to keep with it. I think if I let them know that I'm willing to come inside, it's going to open up a lot more things for me."
