Phillies | Matt Harrison lands on the disabled list

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 16:42:42 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Matt Harrison (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with back inflammation Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has pitched just 44 innings over the past three seasons, so at this point, he is a fantasy afterthought, especially in Philadelphia. Perhaps, there is a case for ownership in NL-only and cavernous mixed formats, but you're really scrapping the bottom of the barrel. FantasyScore players should wait to see some results before utilizing him, too.

Rangers | TEX acquires Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:04:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers have acquired SP Cole Hamels, RP Jake Diekman and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies, in exchange for SP Matt Harrison, C Jorge Alfaro, SP Jerad Eickhoff, OF Nick Williams, P Jake Thompson and P Alec Asher.

Fantasy Tip: For the first time since 2011, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) finds himself pitching for a playoff contender and the change of scenery should give him a boost, especially considering the lack of run support he received towards the end of his tenure with the Phillies. He is expected to make his first start against the San Francisco Giants Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1. Harrison ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts since returning from spinal fusion surgery and should not be a FantasyScore option at this point. Owners in NL-only leagues or dynasty leagues may want to keep tabs on Alfaro, who is considered to be one of the better catching prospects in baseball.

Rangers | Matt Harrison to debut Wednesday

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 14:23:03 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison will make his first start since May of 2014, Wednesday, July 8, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison was 1-3 in five starts at Class AAA. Harrison's ERA was an unimpressive 5.97, and he was only striking out 5.65 batters per nine innings. FantasyScore owners will need to see some positive results before investing in the Rangers' one-time ace.

Rangers | Matt Harrison's return looming

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 16:48:21 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (neck) could return to the starting rotation the week before the All-Star break. The team could go to a six-man rotation when Harrison's 30-day rehab assignment comes to an end after July 2. Harrison threw a bullpen session Friday, June 26, and will throw again Sunday, June 28, before making another rehab start for Class AAA Round Rock Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: There's no obvious candidate to be bumped from the rotation to make room for Harrison in a few weeks. A move to a six-man rotation would cause the current rotation members to lose some fantasy value. Stash Harrison in deep mixed or AL-only leagues now if you're in need of rotation help.

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) worked six innings for Double-A Frisco in his fifth minor-league rehab start Wednesday, June 24. He is making his way back from spinal fusion surgery last season.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison might be able to return sometime this summer, but FantasyScore players should avoid him until he can officially return and prove his health in at least two full starts without any setbacks.

Rangers | Matt Harrison makes another rehab start

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 15:19:07 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (neck) tossed six innings for Class AA Frisco Wednesday, June 24, and gave up five runs and nine hits while walking three. He's expected to make another rehab start for Class AAA Round Rock Monday, June 29, before his rehab assignment ends.

Fantasy Tip: There's no guarantee that Harrison will rejoin Texas' rotation after his start next Monday, and he could remain in the minor leagues for more starts. In very deep mixed and AL-only leagues you might want to consider stashing him if you need rotation help.

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 16:23:26 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) is scheduled to make a rehab start Sunday, June 14, and is scheduled to throw 100 pitches during the start.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison appears to be making progress in his rehab and could join the Rangers in the near future. Harrison could be an option in AL-only leagues if he is able to pitch well.

Rangers | Matt Harrison will make second rehab start

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 15:44:20 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) will make his second rehab start Monday, June 8, at Class AAA Round Rock.

Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on Harrison as a deep AL-only candidate. The Rangers are apt to not rush Harrison back as long as they are doing well, but he could get a chance to prove himself in the second half of the season.
