Giants | Johnny Cueto should make next start

Mon, 30 May 2016 10:07:53 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (back, side) should be able to make his next start even though he is dealing with some injuries, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto has pitched very well in his first season with Giants, but owners should monitor the situation to see if he suffers any setbacks. Cueto should be a starting candidate in all leagues as long as he is healthy.

Giants | Sore back for Johnny Cueto

Sun, 29 May 2016 20:17:59 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (back) dealt with a sore back that was stretched frequently between innings, but he made it through six innings in a win over the Colorado Rockies, allowing one earned run on six hits while walking two and striking out five Sunday, May 29.

Fantasy Tip: The fact that the Giants let Cueto stay in the game would seem to indicate that the back issue isnít too serious. That being said, monitor the situation to make sure is able to make his next start.

Giants | Johnny Cueto goes the distance again

Mon, 23 May 2016 23:21:59 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto allowed two hits and struck out six in his second complete-game win Monday, May 23, over the San Diego Padres. It was his second shutout of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto is 3-0 with a 2.11 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP and 34 K's in 38 1/3 innings this month. He has had some favorable matchups, and this tear could be aided by that. We don't think he'll fall off a cliff the rest of the way, but it's the optimal time to sell high on him.

Giants | Johnny Cueto goes the distance

Wed, 18 May 2016 23:00:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto allowed a run on four hits and two walks while fanning eight in a complete-game win over the San Diego Padres Wednesday, May 18.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto has had two bad outings in his nine starts, and his 2.70 ERA would be 1.31 if you eliminated those. He has a 1.10 WHIP and a 8.24 K/9. He's a superb SP2 and is worth DFS consideration each time his turn comes up.

Giants | Johnny Cueto continues to shine

Fri, 13 May 2016 05:17:23 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto won for the fifth time in six decisions on Thursday, May 12, in a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He allowed two runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: So far Cueto has lived up to his $130 million contract signed in the offseason. Of course there is still plenty of time for things to change, but so far so good. Cueto has gone at least seven innings in all but one of his outings, so durability remains a positive. He is highly recommended in all fantasy formats.

Giants | Johnny Cueto roughed up in Cincy

Mon, 02 May 2016 23:27:46 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto allowed six earned runs, seven hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision against the Cincinnati Reds, his former team, Monday, May 2. It was his first time back in Cincinnati since he was traded from the team last summer. He needed 46 pitches to make it through the third inning, his most pitches in a single inning since June 6, 2009.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto might have been more amped up than usual, and sometimes that can end up with bad results. He might have simply had an off night, too. Either way, he remains a tremendous fantasy option and you can chalk this up as just one poor outing.

Giants | Johnny Cueto spins seven-inning win

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 05:47:14 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over 7 1/3 innings during the Giants' 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto has won all three of his starts this season and owns a 3.38 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP while returning 19 punchouts through 21 1/3 innings. He projects to continue being a fringe ace or solid No. 2 arm for your fantasy rotation. His next start is scheduled against the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday, April 21, and while it might not be the best spot to utilize him in daily contests, Cueto remains a sound option in seasonal leagues.

Dodgers | Yasiel Puig enjoys rare day off

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 15:55:49 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig is not in the lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto on Saturday, April 16. OF Trayce Thompson will occupy his spot in right field and bat eighth. 2B Chase Utley and SS Corey Seager are both back in the lineup after a day off and hitting first and second, respectively. C Yasmani Grandal will make his third appearance of the season behind the plate and bat fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Puig was due a rest after playing in each of the Dodgers' first 11 games, while Utley returns to the lineup against a right-hander after the Dodgers faced southpaws the last two days. Seager should be plugged right back into all lineups, while Grandal should probably be left on benches for now after coming off the disabled list earlier this week. On a side note, DFS players will be happy to know the red-hot Enrique Hernandez, who homered twice off Madison Bumgarner on Friday, will remain in the lineup.

Giants | Johnny Cueto feels fine

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 14:44:30 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (knee, back) said he feels fine and will do his normal between-starts bullpen session after taking a fall in his last outing Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto's last start against the Dodgers was a failure after he allowed six runs and 10 hits in seven innings. He should be fine to make his next start at the Colorado Rockies, but that's an environment that should make you hesitant to rely on him.
