Tigers | Anthony Gose in leadoff spot Tuesday

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 13:52:55 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Anthony Gose will bat leadoff Tuesday, Sept. 1, against Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto.

Fantasy Tip: This is the second time in three days Gose ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is in the leadoff spot. The Tigers usually put him here for speed purposes. Gose does hit .273 against Cueto, however, so this is worth watching on FantasyScore.

Royals | Johnny Cueto struggles mightily Friday

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 18:13:18 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto (9-8) allowed seven runs (six earned) on 13 hits over six innings in a loss to the Boston Red Sox Friday, Aug. 21, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($9,700, 19.4% of cap) had allowed six runs combined in his previous four starts for the Royals and experienced his worst outing since being traded to the American League Friday. He will look to bounce back in his next start against the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Royals | Johnny Cueto solid again

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 19:41:37 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto allowed one run on eight hits over eight innings in a win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Saturday, Aug. 15, and he has allowed two runs or less in three of his four starts since joining the team.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) has a 1.80 ERA with the Royals, and the move to the American League hasn't stopped him from dominating opponents. He is worth considering at FantasyScore whenever he takes the mound.

Royals | Johnny Cueto tosses four-hitter

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 21:25:14 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto allowed four hits and no walks with eight strikeouts in a complete game shutout against the Detroit Tigers Monday, Aug. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($9,600, 19.2% of cap) has made three starts with the Royals, and all three are quality starts. He has lasted at least six innings in each outing while posting seven or more strikeouts in two of the three outings. He is a must-start FantasyScore option regardless of price right now.

Royals | Johnny Cueto suffers loss Wednesday

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 18:45:42 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto (7-7) allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings in a loss to the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, Aug. 5, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) is still looking for his first victory in a Kansas City uniform, although he has thrown quality starts in both of his outings with the Royals. He is expected to make his next start at home against the Tigers Monday, Aug. 10, and remains an excellent FantasyScore option.

Royals | Johnny Cueto to start Friday

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 13:20:32 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto will make his debut with his new team against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) proved his health by throwing eight shutout innings against the Colorado Rockies in his last start for the Cincinnati Reds. He's gaining fantasy value with the move to a more pitcher-friendly ball park, but a matchup against the Blue Jays Friday in Toronto may make it tough for him to return any value on FantasyScore.

Royals | Johnny Cueto likely to start Thursday

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 12:28:01 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto appears to be in line to make his first start with his new team against the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) is 3-1 with a 1.59 ERA through five starts this month and is 2-1 with a 3.58 ERA in five outings against American League teams this year. He remains one of the best FantasyScore starting pitching options available, regardless of the uniform he's wearing.

Reds | Johnny Cueto dealt to KC

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 12:11:33 -0700

The Cincinnati Reds have acquired RP Brandon Finnegan and minor league Ps John Lamb and Cody Reed from the Kansas City Royals, in exchange for SP Johnny Cueto and cash considerations.

Fantasy Tip: Finnegan has been used exclusively as a reliever at the major league level but the Reds may opt to turn him back into a full-time starter, a role he excelled at in college. Lamb was 9-1 with a 2.67 ERA in 17 starts for Class AAA Omaha, while Reed was 7-7 with a 2.53 ERA in 18 games (15 starts) for Class AA Wichita. Of the three, Finnegan appears to have the most upside and should be added in NL-only leagues and monitored in deep mixed fantasy leagues.

Royals | KC acquires Johnny Cueto

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 12:07:54 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Kansas City Royals have acquired SP Johnny Cueto and cash considerations from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Ps Brandon Finnegan, John Lamb and Cody Reed.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the change of scenery, Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) should continue to be viewed as an elite starting pitching option in FantasyScore. If anything, a move to the American League might help him, because he will call Kauffman Stadium home instead of the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park.

Royals | Kansas City lands Johnny Cueto

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 08:38:03 -0700

The Kansas City Royals acquired SP Johnny Cueto from the Cincinnati Reds Sunday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: While other specifics of the deal will surface, fantasy owners should be happy to see Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) join the team with the best record in the American League. The Royals also boast the bullpen with the lowest ERA in the majors, and are a top defensive club. Cueto will now call Kauffman Stadium his home, which is a enviornment upgrade over Great American Ball Park, too. Everything turns up aces for Cueto in this deal. Continue to view him as a fantasy ace with the potential to finish the season out among the elite arms statistically.
