He lasted a season-low 3 2/3 innings in his last start. With the latest effort, he lowered his ERA from 2.06 to 1.94, taking over the National League ERA lead.

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto allowed just three hits and a walk in a complete game shutout Sunday, July 31, against the San Francisco Giants. He also struck out six batters in the 111-pitch quality start. "(Manager Dusty Baker) asked me for a complete game this morning. I said, 'I will,'" said Cueto. It was his first shutout since May 11, 2010. He needed 7 1/3 innings to qualify for the National League ERA lead, which now sits at a sparkling 1.72.
