Mon, 17 Jun 2013 16:40:08 -0700 Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (shoulder) appears to be OK after returning from the disabled list with a shoulder issue and throwing 88 pitches Sunday, June 16, but the team will likely know more Tuesday, June 18. "We'll see," Reds manager Dusty Baker said on Monday. "He's going to have the normal soreness after he pitches. We'll probably tell more tomorrow than today. Today, how do you judge normal soreness? As long as he doesn't hurt."
Mon, 17 Jun 2013 00:01:38 -0700 Updating a previous item, Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Sunday, June 16. Reds RP Pedro Villarreal was optioned back to Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.
Sat, 15 Jun 2013 17:58:52 -0700 Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (shoulder) said he will not be on a pitch count for his start Sunday, June 16. Cueto said his back injuries this season probably will stick in his mind during the start.
Sat, 15 Jun 2013 13:23:16 -0700 Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (shoulder) will be activated from the 15-day disabled list to start against the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday, June 16. However, manager Dusty Baker said there's a chance that SP Tony Cingrani could stick around with the team as a reliever, given the bullpen's recent struggles.
Wed, 12 Jun 2013 12:49:21 -0700 Cincinnati Reds SP Tony Cingrani will likely return to Triple-A Louisville once Johnny Cueto (lat) returns from the disabled list, which could happen Sunday, June 16. Still, the organization has been impressed with the improvements he's made since being demoted. He has refined some of his secondary pitches and, chiefly, has cultivated a curveball that he worked on with Reds SP Homer Bailey and started throwing during his first big-league stint. There's now a much bigger difference between his slider and curve, which were previously nearly indistinguishable. Fantasy Tip: This should only further bolster Cingrani's status as a fantasy commodity when he's in the bigs, but mixed-leaguers will probably have to work around his potential shuttle duties. In many formats, of course, he's worth a stash.
Tue, 11 Jun 2013 18:34:19 -0700 Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (shoulder) threw 35 pitches off the mound during a bullpen session Tuesday, June 11, and the team is hopeful he can return from the 15-day disabled list when eligible Sunday, June 16, against the Milwaukee Brewers. Pitching coach Bryan Price said Cueto looked good and felt good after his bullpen. Fantasy Tip: Sunday is perfect timing for fantasy owners. If he is able to return, and makes it through that outing without any setbacks, you can feel confident in plugging him back into the active fantasy lineup. If he struggles, or aggravates the injury, then keep him reserved for another week just to be on the safe side.
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 13:56:28 -0700 Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (lat) is back on the disabled list, but manager Dusty Baker said Cueto's injury isn't as serious as the one that forced him to the DL earlier this year. "It's the same thing," Baker said. "It's not nearly as serious. We've got to get rid of whatever's there. It's the injury he had before. He felt it a little bit after the game in Pittsburgh. He told us after the game he felt it again. It's not nearly as bad. Being cautious is the way to go at this thing." Baker said Cueto will only miss one or two starts. Fantasy Tip: Because the Reds don't expect Cueto to be out as long this time around, they could stick with Pedro Villarreal in the rotation until then, unless he has an awful outing Wednesday. Tony Cingrani remains an option, but if it's just a start or two, the Reds may prefer to keep him down on the farm.
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 13:16:31 -0700 The Cincinnati Reds placed SP Johnny Cueto (lat) on the 15-day disabled list with a lat injury Wednesday, June 5. Fantasy Tip: Cueto was scratched from his start Wednesday due to his setback. Cueto was on the DL earlier this year with the same injury. Pedro Villarreal will make a spot start tonight, but he probably won't be the option to replace Cueto in the rotation. Tony Cingrani performed nicely in Cueto's stead before, so it would make sense for the Reds to bring him back. Look to add Cingrani in all formats if that's the case.
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 13:04:08 -0700 Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (undisclosed) was scratched from his start against the Colorado Rockies Wednesday, June 5, and the team plans to recall P Pedro Villarreal to fill the spot. Villarreal will be making his first major league start. Cueto had gone 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in three starts since returning from the disabled list. Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Cueto is dealing with an injury or if it is even related to the lat ailment that landed him on the DL earlier this year. Stay tuned. Villarreal is just a fill-in and shouldn't be considered in fantasy leagues.
Tue, 21 May 2013 11:10:35 -0700 The Cincinnati Reds optioned 1B Neftali Soto to Triple-A Louisville Monday, May 20, to make room on the roster for SP Johnny Cueto.
