Reds | Johnny Cueto's value shaky?

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 10:41:29 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (elbow) is being pushed back to Friday, June 26, against the New York Mets to give him more time to rest his elbow issues, and his injury could become a big deal for a team that might be looking to trade him this summer. Cueto has gone 1-2 with a 4.45 ERA in May and has allowed 29 hits, 14 walks and has struck out 22 in 28 1/3 innings in that span. He's allowed seven runs in 12 innings in his last two starts, hinting that his elbow is giving him problems.

Fantasy Tip: In the long run, Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) should be fine, but his elbow condition is worth keeping a close eye on. If he's traded this summer, his fantasy value is likely to receive a boost leaving hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark, even though Cueto has pitched well at home in his career. Against the New York Mets on Friday, he'll be a risk/reward candidate on FantasyScore, as the Mets are one of the worst hitting teams against right-handers in 2015.

Royals | Johnny Cueto attracting KC's interest

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 06:07:57 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto has drawn trade interest from the Kansas City Royals.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) has groomed into an ace in a hitter's park, and he would transition just fine to the American League. His latest start was pushed back to give him extra rest after allowing seven earned runs in his last two starts. He's still a high-end option on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Cole Hamels willing to join Yanks

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 16:56:32 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels is willing to waive his no-trade clause in order to play for the New York Yankees. The Yankees appear to have Cincinnati Reds SPs Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake near the top of their wish list this summer, too. "The opportunity to play for a team that could ultimately get to the World Series is what every guy hopes for and what every guy works for, starting with the offseason and spring training," Hamels said. Yankees OF Aaron Judge and SP Luis Severino intrigue the Phillies, although it looks like Severino won't be dealt.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels ($9,000, 18.0% of cap) remains an elite fantasy starting pitcher despite playing for the lowly Phillies. He'd certainly receive a boost to his value with a move out of Philly and to a contending team with a respectable offense to back him. Buying Hamels right now would be ideal if you can convince his current owner to part with him.

Royals | KC looking at trade options

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 16:36:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Ben Zobrist and Cincinnati Reds SPs Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake are on the radar of the Kansas City Chiefs as the trade deadline nears this summer, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: None of these three players would likely see a drastic boost in their fantasy value with a move to KC, although Cueto and Leake would definitely be a bit more attractive throwing pitches in a pitching-friendly environment instead of Great American Ballpark. AL-only owners definitely should take notice of potential NL targets crossing leagues this summer. Save your FAAB money.

Reds | Johnny Cueto being pushed back

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 15:08:40 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto is having his start pushed back to Friday, June 26, against the New York Mets on the road. The change was made to give him a few extra days of rest, and it wasn't specified if he was dealing with a health issue.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) will be facing a nice matchup against the Mets on Friday night, making him attractive at FantasyScore. The Mets are ranked 28th in baseball in OPS against right-handers at .661. Josh Smith will make his major league debut Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. You should avoid Smith everywhere for this spot start.

Royals | KC scouting Johnny Cueto

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 17:59:02 -0700

The Kansas City Royals have a scout in Cincinnati Wednesday, June 17, to see Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto pitch. It is said to be regular coverage, but there is a trade fit between the two teams.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) could stand to get a boost from a potential trade to the Royals, as Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City ranks 25th in the MLB in runs scored per game, while Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati ranks as the sixth-most hitter-friendly park.

Tigers | Johnny Cueto scouted by Tigers

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 06:15:02 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto had scouts from the Detroit Tigers at his last start over the weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) is a free agent at the end of the season and could be dealt before the deadline. He would remain a frontline starter on FantasyScore wherever he pitches.

Giants | SF scouting Johnny Cueto

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 19:00:31 -0700

San Francisco Giants executive vice president Brian Sabean and senior advisor Lee Elder were on hand at Wrigley Field to watch Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto pitch against the Chicago Cubs Friday, June 12, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: It's interesting to see that the Giants are still looking for starting pitching even though Matt Cain ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) and Jake Peavy ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) appear close to returning from the disabled list. Cueto ($8,400, 16.8% of cap), who is a free agent at the end of the season, could be dealt before the trading deadline if the Reds continue to fall out of contention. He is 4-4 with a 2.85 ERA through 12 starts this year.

Reds | Johnny Cueto could start Tuesday

Sun, 31 May 2015 11:19:09 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (elbow) threw a successful bullpen session Sunday, May 31, and believes he could start against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, June 2.

Fantasy Tip: If Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) suffers a setback and is unable to pitch Tuesday, manager Bryan Price said Mike Leake ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) would move up his next scheduled start by one day. Even though the Phils' offense is not intimidating, it would make sense to avoid using Cueto in FantasyScore in his first start back from injury.
