Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings WR Todd Pinkston (Achilles') said after practice Thursday, Sept. 7, that he's about 90 percent healthy. "It's very encouraging," said Pinkston, who missed the entire 2005 season and parts of the preseason because of a torn Achilles'. "I'm coming along fine. It's going to take a little time to get warmed up." Pinkston showed flashes of his elite speed at practice, but he also seemed tentative at times. Pinkston said Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb throws the ball with a lot more velocity than Vikings' QB Brad Johnson.

He believes a change of scenery could be exactly what he needs to fulfill his potential as the 13th overall pick in the 2002 draft. "I can help the team win games, if that's catching deep balls down the field or catching short passes and making long runs down the field, I can do it," he said after practice Tuesday, Aug. 29. Stallworth joins a crowded receiving corps that includes promising second-year WR Reggie Brown, WR Todd Pinkston, rookie WRs Hank Baskett and Jason Avant, and veteran WRs Greg Lewis, Darnerian McCants and Jabar Gaffney. Pinkston was told that head coach Andy Reid was discouraged by Pinkston's lack of progress with his Achilles' injury. "If he said that, he said that. I'm not discouraged. I'm all right, I'm all right. No big deal," said Pinkston. Pinkston is no longer improving and his future with the Eagles is now in doubt. If Pinkston is not making progress now, with opening day 3 1/2 weeks away, there is no way the Eagles can count on him to be ready for the start of the season. The Eagles' could carry him on the 53-man roster or place him on Injured Reserve and end his season for a second straight year. Or they could release him with an injury payment.

Pinkston has missed practice the past two days due to soreness he sustained in his left Achilles after the team's first practice of the summer. Pinkston already is trying to return from a ruptured right Achilles. It's not a terrific concern right now, but the signs are ominous. Even head coach Andy Reid acknowledged as much when he made a reference to Oakland Raiders WR Ronald Curry. "Curry went through a situation where he had a couple of Achilles' tendons and actually ruptured one of them twice and ruptured the other one," Reid told Philadelphia reporters.

Pinkston experienced some inflammation in his left Achilles' tendon. It is not the same tendon Pinkston ruptured during last year's training camp. "We're being cautious with Todd," said Eagles head coach Andy Reid. "His feet have been bothering him. We just backed off a little bit to make sure we're smart with it. (He won't return) until he gets his feet in condition."

Sheppard is coming off a broken ankle and Pinkston is coming off an Achilles' tendon tear that kept him out all last season. "We're going to just keep communication open," Reid said. Mark Eckel, writing for the Sporting News, reports Philadelphia Eagles WR Jabar Gaffney could win the No. 2 wide receiver job, depending on the health of WR Todd Pinkston, who is coming back from a torn Achilles' tendon. If he does not win the starting job, Gaffney is best suited to be the team's slot receiver. Gaffney has good size at 6-1, 205 and also has good hands.
