Updating previous reports, Chris McPherson, of PhiladelphiaEagles.com, reports Philadelphia Eagles TE Mike Bartrum (neck) will miss the remainder of the season due to his neck injury. Bartrum has a herniated disc which is lying against his spinal cord, giving the team enough concern to sit Bartrum for the rest of the year.

He is expected to see a doctor Friday, Aug. 11, to deal with the undisclosed illness. Head coach Andy Reid angrily denied an apparent report that Bartrum had suffered a heart attack.

Clark was originally chosen as a "need" player, but Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox chose Philadelphia Eagles TE Mike Bartrum instead. NFL spokesman Michael Signora said, "Our office mistakenly informed Desmond Clark that he was selected to the NFC all-star team as the long snapper. He is actually the Bears' backup at the position."

Smith is the Eagles' second tight end, though he plays a lot. They run a lot of two tight end sets. Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress said they'll still run the sets, with third-string Bartrum playing. Bartrum mainly is the team's long-snapper. He hasn't caught any passes this season.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said DE Brandon Whiting (hamstring strain) will be questionable to practice on Wednesday but may return to practice late in the week. DT Hollis Thomas (strained foot) didn't have any swelling on Monday and seems to be fine. TE/LS Mike Bartrum (lower back spasms) and LB Mike Caldwell (strained calf) are all okay. Caldwell still had some soreness but continues to make progress.
