San Francisco 49ers safeties Dashon Goldson and Donte Whitner are the first safety duo to be named Pro Bowl starters since former Philadelphia Eagles safeties Brian Dawkins and Michael Lewis accomplished the feat in 2005. The duo looks forward to attempting to shut down Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game Saturday, Jan. 12. In a Week 1 matchup in Green Bay, Rodgers threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns.

San Francisco 49ers SS Michael Lewis (personal) missed practice Friday, Oct. 1, for "personal reasons" and didn't board the team's flight to Atlanta, reports CSNBayArea.com's Matt Maiocco. According to Lewis' agent, Rodney Williams, Lewis will not return to the team and has asked to be released. Lewis was told Friday that there would be a reduction in his playing time to get "the young guy" on the field. The young guy is presumably FS Taylor Mays. However, earlier in the week, Lewis was told there would be no change to his status, according to Williams. Also per Williams, he and Lewis have heard different things from different people in the organization. When asked who is calling the shots for the 49ers, Williams answered, "That's the problem. I don't know, and I don't think they know."

The Associated Press reports San Francisco 49ers SS Michael Lewis (concussion) is unlikely to land on the Injured Reserve list despite suffering three concussions this year, according to head coach Mike Singletary. The team hopes to know more information on Lewis' injury in the coming days. "As of right now the early prognosis is that he's OK," Singletary said. "We'll have to monitor that going forward. I want to listen to what they tell us after the testing and make decisions going forward."

Lewis suffered his third concussion of the year and is set to have further testing done later in the week. Ulbrich is scheduled to be seen by a neurologist Wednesday, Oct. 14. Ulbrich said he is not ruling out retirement at this point in his career.
