Updating a previous item, free-agent QB Donovan McNabb is officially retiring Monday, July 29, as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. It was not disclosed how he will retire as an Eagle, but it is presumed he will sign a one-day contract in order to call it a career. McNabb originally told media in May that he would retire in September.

Hester believes McNabb could not get up to speed fast enough with the Bears' offense to make a difference. And Hester even suggested that McNabb's arrival could be counterproductive, as any time spent working with McNabb would take away from time the rest of the offense needs to work with QB Caleb Hanie. "It's going to be tough right now to pick up a quarterback that hasn't played in the Mike Martz offense," Hester said.
