"I still think he can play. I think the world of him, and we had some great years together here. I'm always wishing him the best and a fan of his. I got a chance to see him at Brian Dawkins' retirement (event)," Reid said. "He looks good. He looks physically good. He looks like he could go out and play tomorrow. I would highly recommend (him)."
Mon, 14 May 2012 10:25:07 -0700 Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said he does not have a list of teams he would be interested in signing with. Rather, he will sign with any team interested at this point. "I have a list," McNabb said. "A full list, of 32."

"I've been training hard and preparing myself out in San Diego working with George Whitfield, the obviously well-known quarterback guru, supposedly, for over the past month," McNabb said. "Just kind of refining the skills, working on the mechanics and getting back to a high level, an elite level. I'm just waiting for the opportunity to display that."
Sun, 29 Apr 2012 19:09:27 -0700 Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said Saturday, April 28, that he has not yet decided whether he'll retire from the National Football League or not. He is currently weighing his options.
Thu, 19 Apr 2012 06:00:43 -0700 Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said he'd "absolutely" vote for himself to be in the Hall of Fame despite not winning a Super Bowl. "What happens a lot of times is we look at what the list says, so we talk about the five NFC Championship Games, the six Pro Bowls and then we come to the end, 'Well, he never won the big game,'" McNabb said. "Well, Peyton never won the big game until he won the Super Bowl. Dan Marino never won the big game. Does that mean his career is a failure? No, not at all."

Thu, 29 Mar 2012 09:02:46 -0700 Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) said he does not believe Baylor QB Robert Griffin III will be successful if he lands with the Washington Redskins. "No. I say that because a lot of the time ego gets too involved when it comes to being in Washington," McNabb said. "Here's a guy that's coming out who is very talented -mobile, strong arm. We've already heard he's intelligent, a football mind. Are you going to cater the offense around his talent and what he's able to do or are you going to bring the Houston offense with Matt Schaub over to him and have him kind of be embedded in that?" McNabb added, "When you talk about RG3, you talk about his ability, you talk about how smart he is, his arm strength - what type of offense do you run with it? Is the the spread offense that you have him continue to flourish in. Or, are you just going to have him in a fox hole with a makeshift offensive line? You keep bringing in receivers. You have a solid tight end in Fred Davis that you need to feature. What are we going to see? I don't think it's a great fit."
Wed, 01 Feb 2012 18:57:08 -0800 Free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings) does not plan to retire, and said he has three teams in mind for his services, although he wouldn't name them. Mon, 05 Dec 2011 11:27:46 -0800 Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith disputed reports that the team might be looking to lure QB Brett Favre out of retirement. "That's our group," Smith said of the three quarterbacks on the Bears' roster. "We're going to make improvements with our group. We're not looking on the outside. We won't have a quarterback tryout or anything like that." The team still hopes QB Jay Cutler (thumb) can return at the end of the season. Chicago is also rumored to be looking at free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings).
Mon, 05 Dec 2011 07:48:20 -0800 Chicago Bears WR Devin Hester said he is not in favor of the team signing free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings). Hester believes McNabb could not get up to speed fast enough with the Bears' offense to make a difference. And Hester even suggested that McNabb's arrival could be counterproductive, as any time spent working with McNabb would take away from time the rest of the offense needs to work with QB Caleb Hanie. "It's going to be tough right now to pick up a quarterback that hasn't played in the Mike Martz offense," Hester said. "This is a difficult offense to run, so as far as a quarterback who hasn't played in the offense, right now it's going to be a waste of time."
Mon, 05 Dec 2011 06:22:25 -0800 After the struggles of Chicago Bears QB Caleb Hanie in Week 13 and QB Josh McCown not deemed ready enough after more than a week of orientation with the offense, team management will be in conversations Monday, Dec. 5, about free-agent QB Donovan McNabb (Vikings), according to sources. Conversations do not equate to "negotiations" or serious talks, however.

Tue, 29 Nov 2011 20:23:40 -0800 The Minnesota Vikings are unlikely to cut QB Donovan McNabb with five games remaining, as they would be on the hook for $1.48 million is no team claimed him. The likely scenario is that McNabb serves the remainder of the season as the backup to QB Christian Ponder and then weighs his options after the season.
Sat, 29 Oct 2011 08:25:10 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb believes he should still be the team's starting quarterback. McNabb feels he was not playing poorly. "Statistically I wasn't playing bad. I wasn't turning the ball over offensively," McNabb said. "We were averaging 20-plus points or so. But there's a lot of things that go into that. And when you draft a young guy first round and you're 1-5, obviously, everyone wants to see the younger guy, the so-called spark." McNabb added that he can and still wants to start in the NFL.
Mon, 24 Oct 2011 07:02:39 -0700 The Minnesota Vikings benched QB Donovan McNabb at least in part because he wasn't putting in the time to be a great player and leader, according to people in the organization. McNabb refuted the report, however, by saying he did put in the necessary time and did what coaches asked him to do, and he is more disappointed that the story has become about him than about being demoted for what coaches believed was best for the team.

Thu, 20 Oct 2011 05:17:05 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb said the decision to start QB Christian Ponder was a surprise to him, despite the 1-5 start. "As any other competitor, you obviously want to compete with your team and prepare and look forward to the opportunity of getting back on the field and changing things," McNabb said. "But unfortunately it's not so." McNabb said he will prepare as if he will have another opportunity to see action. "At this particular point, it's for me to continue to prepare and make sure that we continue to support Christian and make sure that he's ready. But most important for me, is to prepare because I'm just one play from going back in. Just make sure I'm ready when called upon and try to lead us to victory."
Wed, 19 Oct 2011 10:39:29 -0700 Updating a previous item, Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder will be the team's starting quarterback for the rest of the season. QB Donovan McNabb will mentor the rookie and serve as the backup.
Wed, 19 Oct 2011 09:47:42 -0700 Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said he expects QB Donovan McNabb to remain on the roster for the rest of the season. McNabb indicated that he would like to help QB Christian Ponder during the season.
Tue, 18 Oct 2011 11:49:00 -0700 Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier indicated that he doesn't want to flip flop his starting quarterbacks on a week-to-week basis, which means that QB Christian Ponder will likely be the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. QB Donovan McNabb's career may be winding to an end.
Tue, 18 Oct 2011 11:15:21 -0700 Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier indicated Tuesday, Oct. 18, that the team will make a change at quarterback and QB Christian Ponder will step in for QB Donovan McNabb as the starter.

Mon, 17 Oct 2011 03:43:28 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb said following Week 6 that he expects to remain the team's starting quarterback moving forward. "I don't see it 'ending like this,' as you say. It's tough," McNabb said. "You're 1-5 at this particular point. It felt like we did a lot of great things today. I guess we'll sit down and talk, but I still expect to be there (starting) next week."
Sun, 16 Oct 2011 22:58:32 -0700 Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said he will decide on the team's starting quarterback for Week 7 Monday, Oct. 17. "Yeah, we're going to sit down Monday and just talk about a lot of things and just decide on what direction we want to go," Frazier said. QB Donovan McNabb was fairly efficient, but he was lifted in the fourth quarter of the blowout loss in favor of rookie QB Christian Ponder.
Sun, 16 Oct 2011 21:41:15 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder completed 9 of 17 passes for 99 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the fourth quarter of the Week 6 loss against the Chicago Bears. He also ran once for eight yards. QB Donovan McNabb was an efficient 19 of 24 before being lifted in the blowout loss, but the struggles of the team certainly weren't all his fault. Still, it will be interesting to see if head coach Leslie Frazier hands over the offense to the rookie.
Sun, 16 Oct 2011 19:57:54 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb was lifted in the fourth quarter of the Week 6 game against the Chicago Bears for rookie QB Christian Ponder, who made his NFL debut. C John Sullivan (concussion) and OT Phil Loadholt (knee) left with injuries.
Fri, 14 Oct 2011 06:44:59 -0700 Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier wants QB Donovan McNabb to be more aggressive in the passing game. Although McNabb only has two interceptions on the season, Frazier feels McNabb has played too cautious. McNabb has averaged just 170 passing yards per game. "He's done a great job of not turning the ball over, which is a big deal because of the way we play," Frazier said. "It's one of the reasons we've been in these games the way we have. But you can't play this game cautious. He knows that. He's had a ton of success in this league. Sometimes, you just got to let it go. And he will, and he has."
Wed, 12 Oct 2011 22:58:50 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb said Wednesday, Oct. 12, that the talk about his throwing motion, footwork and mechanics is getting out of hand. "This whole mechanics thing is getting out of hand," McNabb said. "Everybody works on mechanics, no matter what position you play. I'm all about winning. I'm not about numbers."
Wed, 12 Oct 2011 07:20:05 -0700 In Week 5, Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb was 10-for-21 for 169 yards, including one wobbly pass to WR Devin Aromashodu that accounted for 60 of those yards. Despite ample time in the pocket, several of McNabb's passes were inexplicably short or behind receivers. McNabb is not turning over the ball, but he frequently misses open targets.
Wed, 05 Oct 2011 19:52:11 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb put in extra time after practice Wednesday, Oct. 5, with WRs Devin Aromashodu and Bernard Berrian.

Thu, 29 Sep 2011 12:16:36 -0700 Updating a previous item, Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Craig Johnson is working with QB Donovan McNabb on timing and throwing on balance from the start of his throwing motion to the finish. McNabb is just 9-for-24 on third-down passing attempts and doesn't have a pass longer than 42 yards. The staff is working "to make sure that we're launching the football from the right point, we're taking the proper drops, that our feet are where they need to be."
Thu, 29 Sep 2011 11:15:00 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb said he does not think he needs to change any of his mechanics in order to improve his play even though coaches have seen things they would like to chance in his mechanics. "I think the thing about it, just when you're critical of yourself and your play, you just look at your reads, you look at how fast you can get the ball out. I think obviously footwork and things like that, but that's not just my position -- that's from everyone. As a quarterback, when you're watching yourself, you're going through everything. It's not just mechanics. It's ball placement, it's 'is it the right read,' things like that," McNabb said.
Tue, 27 Sep 2011 11:19:54 -0700 Minnesota Vikings WR Bernard Berrian has only one catch for 17 yards through three weeks this year. He was targeted four times in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions and two came in the fourth quarter. The team wants to use Berrian as a deep factor, but QB Donovan McNabb's inaccuracy and the poor pass protection have ruined those plans so far. "There were a few times where we tried to target Bernard, but I think we'll continue to try to work on getting him the football," head coach Leslie Frazier said.
Mon, 26 Sep 2011 17:39:53 -0700 Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said Monday, Sept. 26, that the team will look into what they're doing with QB Donovan McNabb's mechanics given his accuracy on throws has become an issue.

Frazier plans to stick with QB Donovan McNabb as the starter. "I don't think the quarterback position is our problem right now," Frazier said. "No. We're not thinking about anything at the quarterback position."
Thu, 22 Sep 2011 14:43:45 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb has thrown 11 of his 45 passes this year from outside the pocket, including the one touchdown pass he has thrown. The team has developed these plays for McNabb outside the pocket on purpose in order to capitalize on his success while throwing on the move. McNabb has been more successful this year on the plays in which he is outside the pocket. "Teams are going to pursue to try to stop him from getting that big run," McNabb said, "which is going to open up lanes outside on the nakeds and boots to get the ball to our receivers on the outside. That's going to happen all throughout the course of the year and we just have to capitalize on the play-action game and get the ball down 15, 20, 25 yards to create some more explosive plays." McNabb currently has the fewest completions (17) on passes thrown from within the pocket this season.
Wed, 21 Sep 2011 09:40:14 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb failed to throw a touchdown pass in the first two weeks of the season. The last time he went two consecutive games without tossing a touchdown was back in 2003, a span of 105 games.
