When asked how much time he's invested into special teams, Cannon said, "Pretty much all of it, because coming in as a rookie as a seventh-round draft pick, you're not expected to step in and make a major contribution on-field as far as being a starter and what not. I know my ability and what I'm able to do as a football player and what I've done in college for the past four years. I would pretty much excel at special teams because I can run around and hit people. I think I would contribute to this team a lot in special teams."

Chrissie Zavicar, of DetroitLions.com, reports Detroit Lions rookie LBs Ernie Sims and Anthony Cannon have been developing a strong friendship on and off the field, despite their draft status. Sims was the Lions' 2006 first-round pick, while Cannon was selected in the seventh round. "It's a good relationship that me and him are starting to build and I'm starting to like that," Sims said. "We're the same type of player," said Cannon. "We both love the game, (we're the) same type of linebackers: speedy and not very big, not very tall, not the prototype linebacker. But when it comes down to making the play, we're both going to make the play. ... I don't think him being the first-round pick and me being the seventh-round pick changes our thought process and our mentality and our approach to the game."
