Dylan B. Tomlinson, of PackersNews.com, reports Green Bay Packers WR Leo Bookman has impressed the coaching staff with his speed, but he faces an uphill battle for a roster spot. The Packers have nine wide receivers fighting for five or six spots on the final roster. "I can't worry about any of that," Bookman said. "I just have to work hard, and hopefully the rest of that stuff will work itself out." Bookman has managed the get head coach Mike McCarthy's attention during the organized team activities.

Randy Covitz, of the Kansas City Star, reports Green Bay Packers WR Leo Bookman has made an early impression as a wide receiver in the team's offseason program. Bookman hasn't played football since 2002 at Kansas. In March, Bookman, who is 6 feet 2 and 213 pounds, broke the unofficial 40-yard dash record inside the Packers' Hutson Center. His first set of 40s was timed in 4.22, 4.24 and 4.25, and his second was 4.19, 4.21 and 4.22. A few days later, Bookman said he ran 4.26 on grass for the Chiefs. "He's still learning the game, but he's a nice-sized kid, looks like he catches the ball pretty good and can run like the wind," Packers' general manager Ted Thompson said.

Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers have signed street free agent WR Leo Bookman. He is a former Kansas wide receiver and track and field sprinter. Bookman hasn't played football since the 2002 season, when he quit Kansas team to focus on track. In November, Bookman received a public warning from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for testing positive for a banned substance that can be used only with prior medical approval, which Bookman did not have.
