Cleveland Browns CB Dimitri Patterson (ankle) and DL Scott Paxson (knee) each left the preseason game in the first half against the Detroit Lions Friday, Aug. 10, with injuries. Patterson injured his ankle, while Paxson left with a knee issue. Paxson, who is in the hunt for a starting job along the defensive line, walked off on his own power.

Cleveland Browns DL Phil Taylor (pectoral) mentioned DL Scott Paxson as a possible replacement, playing next to DL Ahtyba Rubin at defensive tackle. Taylor is expected to miss a chunk of the season after surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle. DLs John Hughes and Billy Winn are also in the mix, and they are all expected to compete for the job in training camp and the preseason.

Pete Bosak, of the Centre Daily Times, reports a trial date has been set for Pittsburgh Steelers rookie DE Scott Paxson. Paxson is scheduled to stand trial Sept. 27-28, not coincidentally the first bye week of the season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Paxson is trying to make the team as an undrafted free agent. Jury selection is scheduled for Aug. 7, but Paxson already has told the court he will not attend the selection, as he will be in training camp with the team. His attorney, Joseph Amendola, will help pick the jury for the trial, currently scheduled to be heard by county Judge Bradley P. Lunsford.

Pete Bosak, of the Centre Daily Times, reports the trial of Pittsburgh Steelers DL Scott Paxson, who is charged with indecent assault on a Penn State co-ed, has been postponed until the August term of court. Paxson was originally scheduled to go on trial in June, but earlier this month Assistant District Attorney Lance Marshall asked that either an out-of-county jury be selected to hear the case, saying pre-trial publicity made it difficult to select an impartial jury from within Centre County.

Pete Bosak, of the Centre Daily Times, reports Centre County Assistant District Attorney Lance Marshall filed a motion Tuesday, May 16, seeking an out-of-county jury or delay in the trial of Pittsburgh Steelers DL Scott Paxson because of what he called biased media coverage. Marshall also said Paxson's attorney, Joseph Amendola, and the player's agent, Chuck Abel, made statements in the press that will prevent Marshall from finding an impartial jury to try Paxson on aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault charges. Paxson is accused of indecently assaulting a Penn State student in his apartment. If Paxson is on trial during the beginning of the NFL season, the Steelers might release him. Judge Bradley P. Lunsford must rule on the motion prior to jury selection for Paxson's trial in June.
