He's a guy that when you play a football game you want him on your side. He's got a good guy next to him in [OG] Brian Waters. (Right tackle Kevin Sampson) has a good player next to him in [OG] Will Shields. I think that helps your tackles when you have those guards. That's what we have."

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports newly signed WR Freddie Mitchell, in a best case scenario, could wind up as the team's No. 2 wide receiver starting next to WR Eddie Kennison. Worst case he figures to be the fourth receiver behind Kennison, WR Samie Parker and WR Dante' Hall. Mitchell, known for his outlandish comments, was low-key his first day with the Chiefs. His loudmouth reputation is well-deserved, according to Chiefs OL John Welbourn, who played with Mitchell on the Eagles. Head coach Dick Vermeil, a believer in positive locker-room chemistry, doesn't appear concerned he's getting a player who might poison the Chiefs. "I think anytime you get a fresh start, it's good and he'll start fresh," Vermeil said. "I'm sure as a young receiver he made some mistakes in Philadelphia like they all do, like we all do. I think he's matured and will do a good job in competing."
