Blue Jays | More on Sergio Santos

Tue, 14 May 2013 13:03:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays RP Sergio Santos (elbow) will likely undergo surgery this week, and he's expected to be out for six weeks, and maybe less. The team won't have a firm timetable until after his surgery.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, if you were hanging onto Santos as a handcuff to Casey Janssen in a deep mixed league, you can safely cut bait and add a more valuable arm.

Blue Jays | Sergio Santos to have surgery

Tue, 14 May 2013 12:44:20 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Sergio Santos (elbow) will undergo surgery on his right elbow to have bone spurs and chips cleaned out, but he won't miss the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Santos has been unable to remain healthy since joining the Blue Jays last season. It's unclear exactly how long he's expected to be sidelined. Stay tuned for more info on a timetable. Casey Janssen has performed well in the closer's role and doesn't have any threats to take his job with Santos sidelined.

Blue Jays | Sergio Santos throwing

Tue, 07 May 2013 12:57:06 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Sergio Santos (triceps) said he's thrown three bullpen sessions and expects to pitch in a rehab game Thursday, May 9. However, he still feels his triceps issue a bit, but is strong enough to pitch.

Fantasy Tip: Toronto will likely choose to be cautious in bringing Santos back based on his recent injury history. When he returns, expect him to go back to being the eighth-inning setup man since Casey Janssen has performed well in the closer's role. Santos will remain a handcuff to Janssen in deep mixed leagues until further notice.

Blue Jays | Casey Janssen still not 100 percent

Thu, 25 Apr 2013 17:56:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays CL Casey Janssen (shoulder) said his surgically repaired right shoulder still isn't 100 percent. "It's a grind," Janssen said. "There are days when it doesn't feel great and there are days when it feels okay. It's just part of it. I don't think anyone feels 100 percent. Everyone's kind of giving it whatever they have each day. That's kind of what's expected of us."

Fantasy Tip: You could have fooled us. He has allowed just one run in eight outings, with 11 strikeouts and no walks on the young season. The team may limit his usage just a bit, which could hurt his value a bit. Darren Oliver and Steve Delabar could get sporadic save opportunities.

Blue Jays | Sergio Santos to close Friday

Fri, 05 Apr 2013 13:22:08 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Sergio Santos will be used as the closer if the team needs one Friday, April 5, because RP Casey Janssen is not available to pitch.

Fantasy Tip: Owners in daily leagues should look to put Santos in their lineup Friday because of the save opportunity while Janssen owners should bench him.

Blue Jays | Casey Janssen looks ready

Mon, 25 Mar 2013 15:49:51 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Casey Janssen (shoulder) looked good in his outing Monday, March 25, after striking out the side in a spring contest. "Opening day is looking more and more realistic," he said.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, you should expect Janssen to be ready and start the year as the team's closer. Sergio Santos loses a little luster, but he's still worth drafting as Janssen's handcuff.

Blue Jays | Expect Casey Janssen to be ready

Fri, 22 Mar 2013 14:42:10 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said the team fully expects RP Casey Janssen (shoulder) to be ready for opening day. "Barring a setback, Casey should be fine. He won't be ready to knock off three games in a row - he won't be in that kind of setup - but if everything goes from here on out accordingly he should be ready to go," Gibbons said.

Fantasy Tip: Janssen will get the first crack at saves over Sergio Santos to start the year, so Janssen should be your first target when searching for saves in Toronto. Santos makes for a good handcuff, though, if you take the chance on Janssen.
