Roy Cummings, of the Tampa Tribune, reports there is an outside chance the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will re-sign FB Cecil Martin. Martin was on the verge of earning a spot on the game-day roster when injuries in the secondary forced him to be let go.

Joanne Korth and Roger Mills, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden said he expects recently-signed FB Cecil Martin to compete for a job this week. "He's had two weeks to learn our system," Gruden said. "This is a big week of practice for him. We're only going to have two fullbacks active. Special teams is a part of the decision." Jameel Cook and Darian Barnes are the team's current active fullbacks.

Christopher Shelton, of Raiders.com, reports Oakland Raiders FB Cecil Martin, acquired as a free agent this off-season from the Philadelphia Eagles, is excited to join the Raiders and their team tradition. Martin feels the Raiders are "a great organization at a top-notch level." He also believes he will be highly productive as a Raider. "I definitely feel like my skills will be used in this organization," Martin said.

Philadelphia Eagles.com reports the team has offered one-year tender offers to their restricted free agents. Receiving offers were: WR Na Brown, G Doug Brzezinski, SS Rashard Cook, FB Cecil Martin, C Hank Fraley, and LB Jeremiah Trotter. Brown was tendered with a fourth-round draft choice as compensation, Brzezinski a third-round pick, Cook and Martin sixth-round picks, Fraley was an exclusive rights free agent and Trotter of course is the team's franchise free agent.

Mark Eckel of the Trenton Times reports for the Sporting News the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to give G Doug Brzezinski and WR Na Brown the minimum tender offer of close to $600,000. S Damon Moore, who would have gotten more, but tore his ACL in the NFC Championship Game is likely to get the same offer. The team faces tougher decisions on FB Cecil Martin and projected starting SS Rashard Cook. If both are low-tendered the Eagles would only receive a sixth-round draft pick as compensation. The first-round tender of $1.2 million might be too high for either player.

"We didn't want to spread it among the players," coach Andy Reid said. WR James Thrash practiced again and felt better than he had one day earlier. As previously reported, he should be good to go for Sunday's game.

Phil Sheridan reports for the Philadelphia Inquirer Philadelphia Eagles RB Duce Staley was inactive Sunday night, but because the team opened in a three-WR set with Cecil Martin the lone RB, rookie Correll Buckhalter did not technically get the start. The Eagles barely ran the ball in opening a commanding 33-6 first-half lead. Buckhalter and Martin combined for just 10 carries for 33 yards in the half. Buckhalter's first pro touchdown gave the Eagles a 40-6 lead.

The Philadelphia Eagles official site reports fullback is one position the team has no worries about. Cecil Martin has looked terrific in workouts and is making strides as an offensive weapon. Veteran Stanley Pritchett makes a valuable backup and because of his pass catching abilities, he may be utilized in the one back set. There is also competition from free agents Jamie Reader (XFL) and Brennan Ochs (USC). Both Reader and Ochs will have to impress on special teams if they have a shot at making the team.

With only one healthy fullback on the roster, Cecil Martin, backup TE Luther Broughton took snaps at fullback in practice Wednesday. DE Hugh Douglas was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Week.
