The San Francisco 49ers have terminated the contract of DE Brandon Whiting after he failed a team physical, reports the Associated Press. The oft-injured defensive end was acquired last year in the trade that sent WR Terrell Owens to the Philadelphia Eagles. Whiting played just five games for the 49ers after getting a late start on training camp because of a back injury. He tore a knee ligament in late October and missed the rest of the season.
